Parkour and art have many connection points, whether it is through the experience of the flow state, performance, or a different point of view from the mainstream. The "Art of Space" focuses in on the specific connection between public sculpture / installation art and parkour. Melissa will discuss case studies detailing the similarities between installation and parkour, in how both cause onlookers to engage with a space differently, and can change perceptions about that space, as well as challenging preconceived notions about the uses for various objects, whether it is sculpture or public property.Melissa Way is a coach with Parkour Generations Lehigh Valley. In addition to coaching, she works on the Movers Mindset Podcast. Melissa was initially captivated by parkour’s mental and physical challenge, as well as its creative possibilities. They delve into the unicorn syndrome, the polarization of genders, and how community leaders can help get more women involved. Naomi and Melissa tackle why women's only events are important, how to create a welcoming environment, and their experiences with unsolicited advice. --- Why does Movers Mindset exist? The purpose of Movers Mindset is to create and share great conversations with movement enthusiasts. Each conversation feeds my insatiable curiosity, but I share them to turn on a light for someone else, to inspire them, or to give them their next question. In the podcast, I talk with movement enthusiasts to learn who they are, what they do, and why they do it. I'm interested in the nature and philosophy of movement and in exploring themes like independence, self-direction, and human excellence. My interests color each conversation and provide some structure to Movers Mindset. But since I like to take the scenic route, every conversation ends up going somewhere unique.
