--- Why does Movers Mindset exist? The purpose of Movers Mindset is to create and share great conversations with movement enthusiasts. Each conversation feeds my insatiable curiosity, but I share them to turn on a light for someone else, to inspire them, or to give them their next question. In the podcast, I talk with movement enthusiasts to learn who they are, what they do, and why they do it. I'm interested in the nature and philosophy of movement and in exploring themes like independence, self-direction, and human excellence. My interests color each conversation and provide some structure to Movers Mindset. But since I like to take the scenic route, every conversation ends up going somewhere unique. Damien started training in 2008 after making friends with Barnz (arguably NZ's first practitioner) who was in the same Sport and Exercise Science degree. Damien turned his excitement for parkour towards his studies to make it more practical and hopefully helpful to the parkour community. He helped to found Parkour NZ in 2011 and has been its CEO since 2013. Although still an active practitioner and coach, his research interests shifted from biomechanics to sociology. In 2019 he completed his thesis 'Making the Jump: Examining the Glocalisation of Parkour in Aotearoa New Zealand' at the University of Waikato - an exploration into the implications of parkour's 'glocalisation'. During his thesis studies, he also became involved in the development of Parkour Earth and took over the CEO role in February 2020. He now works full time for Sport Waikato, a Regional Sports Trust. When he's not working he tries to be a good husband to Nicole, a doting dad to their two daughters, and continues to muddle his way through his Christian faith."Art of Retreat LIVES are off-the-cuff conversations recorded live with an online audience. Lead by John 'Hedge' Hall of Access Parkour.
