It’s not often you find a neuroscientist studying fear who growing up, also fought in the streets and trained and competed in combat sports. That’s what makes Andrew Huberman’s story and message amazing and even more credible to me! I’m fascinated by the mind and the brain and especially its connection to fear. I read what I can to make sure our method is consistent with modern principles of neuroscience. Unfortunately so much content online is often pedantic and academic making it hard to relate to.  Enter Andrew Huberman, Ph.D., Professor of Neurobiology and Director of his own lab at Stanford School of Medicine where he works on brain mechanisms of fear and anxiety and neural regeneration. I'm met Pat McNamara over 20-years ago while conducting training at Fort Bragg.  He trained with me several times and his passion for combatives and fitness ensured we had a lot to talk about. Our friendship continues to this day. I first met Andy about 10 years ago in Santa Cruz.  As our paths continued to cross our conversations got longer and deeper.   Over the years I have learned that he's an incredibly talented and passionate man. He's a caring father.  A patriot. An explorer and adventurer. He can draw and write.  He's funny and a deep thinker. He's like a modern-day Renaissance Man, which doesn't make sense but it does. What's even more fascinating to me is how humble he is.  I asked him to share the story as it's so relevant to this podcast aptly named: KNOW FEAR. It's worth reading about the event online here.
