Jessica Hofheimer is the founder of Pace of Me, an online coaching business helping athletes of all ages and experience levels, including her custom artwork for runners. She is an RRCA and VDOT Certified Coach and currently coaches her private clients on VDOT O2. As a young woman fresh out of college, Jess struggled with depression influenced by a lack of self-belief and sense of purpose. Immersing herself in running empowered her to feel healthy, happy and strong. Since then she has completed over 20 marathons (ranging from 5:58 to 3:11) and countless other races from the mile to 50 miles. After a decade of being a distance runner (and getting married and having two kids), she decided to learn more about the science and principles behind running and racing your best. She got her first coaching certification in 2010 and she’s been coaching athletes of all abilities ever since. Jessica Hofheimer is a mom, runner, coach, artist—so many things. You may know her on Instagram as Pace of Me. She has been running for 20 years, has three kids, and is a certified running coach through Road Runner Club of America. She is also a Pilates instructor. In this episode, we talk about her running—the how and the why. Jessica ran her first marathon in more than 5 hours and 30 minutes. She then got it down to about 4 and a half hours and hovered there for several years. She had this big goal to run a 4-hour marathon and at the time—it may have seemed a little out of reach to some people. But once Jessica really learned about running and took the time to educate herself on speed work and recovery runs, etc., not only did she meet her 4-hour goal, she actually has a personal best of 3:11. So, yeah—5:30 marathoner to 3:11. That’s pretty amazing.  There is a lot of beauty in Jessica’s story. She’s hit some rough patches in life, but running always brought her beauty. Beauty through achieving goals, making lasting friendships, and igniting her creative side. For Episode 75 of I’ll Have Another Podcast, I had a wonderful conversation with my friend Jessica Hofheimer. Jessica is the mother of three and she lives on the east coast with her kids and husband Robert. She is a runner, a new swimmer, a pilates instructor, a running coach and so much more. Jessica went from a 5:36 marathon to a 3:11 marathon over the course of a few years and she recently has overcome a battle with over training. She suffered severe GI distress when she was running really fast times for a long time and finally decided it was time to figure out what was really going on. She worked closely with Tawnee Prazak and used Inside Tracker to get down to the bottom of her issues. She also recently has been overcoming a foot injury and has found great joy in swimming. In this episode we get into the details of what over training looked like- how looking back she could see that something wasn’t right and what the freedom of being healthy is feeling like now. Jessica is currently teaching pilates to an amazing woman, Andrea Peet, who has ALS and is running her fall half marathon to raise money for Andrea’s foundation.
