Episode 11 – Teams talk with Randy Chapman

It all starts with a simple idea. While growing as professionals, we learn more about our strengths and how we can apply them to our passions. Our job experiences allow us to discover what works- and what doesn’t- so we can expand our skills’ reach. But once we feel we’ve done that, what’s next? For Randy Chapman of CCE Designs, the desire to start a business was innate despite its challenges. Listen as Tawney Allen asks the right questions to earn insight from Randy about using the tools that are available to you to pursue your passions confidently. He brings comfort to all of us who feel that our visions for business pursuit are not unique enough for success. Randy says it’s not about the whether your ideas have been done before, but about building the right teams and establishing the right intent to set yourself apart. Perspective is key this week, and Tawney and Randy remind us that burning out doesn’t equate to failure; it just means it’s time to shift the view. But more importantly, it’s about understanding that our fears of not doing well in our ventures never go away; business owners and corporate workers alike. Chapman has a deep commitment and passion for the cause of justice, and is known for his creative approaches to legal aid challenges and funding. Although he 'retired' in 2017 after more than 43 years of providing access to justice for the poor, he remains active and passionate in ensuring those who need legal help can find it.

Randy Chapman is a Unified Comms specialist with 20 years of experience consisting of sales, technical, and consulting.Randy was initially qualified in installing PBX around 1999/2000 on the Avaya IP Office before moving to a more helpdesk and technical role.Career &amp; ExperienceUsing his voice background, Randy was bitten by the Microsoft bug and has been there ever since. We discuss how far the telecoms industry has come from ISDN and TDM to softphones and remote working.I ask Randy how he's seen the technology in Unified Comms change from his time as a telco into the more modern cloud communications space.We walk through the kerfuffle of moving from Microsoft Lync for Skype for Business - and everything that preceded these.Randy references the challenge of "I can't sell my FD something he speaks to his granny on" but we agree that a lot of the consumer-world is often a driver for B2B communications.Randy says that there is still a few Skype for Business deployments in progress but the majority of his customers (90%) are talking about Microsoft Teams. I asked what happens to Skype for Business projects in progress. Randy says that every opportunity starts with an open mind but often Microsoft Teams just makes sense. We run through Microsoft Teams governance, partnerships, voice, user adoption, and some examples of customers current concerns when it comes to moving to Teams,What is Unified Comms?Randy suggests some people refer to Unified Comms as a legacy term but still sees it relevant today.However, he still sees if relevant because you are unifying different communication methods into a single tool.It's about taking your chat tool, your meeting tool, your collaboration space, and your telephony into a single "pane of glass."Unified Comms Trends Randy says more and more features will drive the future of Unified Comms.
