This interview with Pasqua Wines CEO, Riccardo Pasqua, was recorded in Verona during VinItaly Special Edition, last October in 2021. View more on SecretSommelier.com During the wine show, Pasqua collaborated with an art collective to put on a large scale installation, demonstrating that wine can express itself as a collaborator in the arts as easily as it can in a tasting note. The company has been developing a longstanding engagement with creative projects that include podcasting, craftworks and much more. Regarding winemaking at Pasqua, Riccardo talks about the work going on behind the scenes that is aligning the company with the global push for sustainability. This includes joining the highly respected Equalitas Certification programme in Italy, and also making moves towards organic conversion with wines already certified. I caught up with Pasqua again at VinExpo Paris last month, where Riccardo hinted that at VinItaly in April visitors will see a collaborative art sequel that is going to be big. No details have been revealed, even to the Pasqua team. This interview discusses Pasqua’s collaboration with the arts and also the inevitable journey towards sustainability that is the hot topic of the wine industry.

La storia di Pasqua Vigneti e Cantine ha quasi un secolo. Comincia nel 1925 a Verona quando la prima generazione dei fratelli Pasqua fonda un’azienda dedicata alla produzione di vini veneti. In breve tempo l’azienda si afferma nel panorama enologico italiano e negli anni Quaranta arrivano i primi investimenti in vigneti seguiti dall’introduzione di un impianto di imbottigliamento, innovativo per l’epoca. Pasqua contribuisce a esportare la cultura enologica italiana, dapprima in Europa e poi nel mondo.  Gli anni Ottanta vedono la fondazione di un’azienda agricola e centro studi di eccellenza: si tratta di Cecilia Beretta, realtà che oggi collabora con le più prestigiose università italiane nella ricerca sui vitigni, gli innesti e i vigneti. Negli anni Duemila viene costruita una nuova cantina nel cuore dei vigneti di proprietà a San Felice con un ingente investimento e l’intenzione di rafforzare così un patrimonio che possa andare a beneficio delle generazioni future. La cantina è una testimonianza del radicamento della famiglia Pasqua nel proprio territorio di elezione e della tensione all’innovazione dell’azienda, essendo interamente orientata al miglioramento e al perfezionamento delle tecniche colturali e di affinamento. Inoltre, testimonia l’impegno dell’azienda per una strategia di business environment friendly: consumo energetico ai minimi, strutture che regolano naturalmente la temperatura, minimizzazione dello spreco degli imballaggi come vetro e carta, ottenimento di tutte le principali certificazioni di qualità ISO. La terza generazione dell’azienda, che è arrivata a ricoprire ruoli di responsabilità, è quella a cui è più fortemente delegato il compito di far crescere Pasqua sui mercati internazionali: da quelli più vicini del Nord Europa, alle Americhe fino ai Paesi emergenti, la nuova frontiera per una ulteriore espansione dell’azienda.
