A Conversation About Women in Ministry pt. 2

The Slide of Saul

We can not hang our hope on earthly movements and figureheads. Believers, we need to fix our eyes on Jesus and labor for what won’t perish. In 1 Samuel 12, the Israelites asked for a king so they could be like the other nations. But, God gave them a kingship that answered to Him. If you walk in Christ, then you’re called to be different from the world.Today’s episode is a session from Snowbird’s summer staff training. Brody encouraged our summer staff to remain faithful to the Lord in the middle of our current culture. As we watched the fruits of the SWO ministry, leaders and pastors touch our son &amp; daughter over the years, we knew as youth leaders we wanted to support SWO in any way we could going forward. We are now youth leaders at a church plant and the first question we asked, “Can we take the students to SWO?” Praise Jesus, we will be there in August! We also have attended the SWO Marriage Conference the last 3 years and highly recommend it! We are excited for our youth leaders to attend Iron on Iron this year. There are no days off in the Christian life. Every day, when our feet hit the floor, we are engaged in a spiritual war. We’ve got to fight with courage and perseverance. The instinct of our flesh is to drift away from holiness and toward the worship of ourselves and other idols.Jeroboam became king over the northern kingdom of Israel but didn’t have Jerusalem (and the Temple) within his reign. He created two golden calves that his kingdom of Northern Israel could worship. An entire new religious system was born.So, God sent a prophet from Judah up to Bethel to prophesy God’s judgment against the false priests (and Jeroboam). The prophet proclaimed God’s words with courage and boldness in the face of King Jeroboam’s anger.Sadly, the man of God was then deceived by an old prophet while on the way home and didn’t obey the Lord’s command to return straight home.  References1 Kings 12-13Quotes“Every day when our feet hit the floor we are at war spiritually and so every day we’ve got to fight.”“Your relationship with the Lord is so critical, how you view God is so critical you can’t take a break from that. Beyond the Flannelgraph | David and Goliath

This was the greatest gift my dad ever gave me. He looked at me with tears and said, “Son, I had a successful ministry and success life. And I allowed myself to get wrapped up in that.” His failures and mistakes shape who I am today—as a father, as a husband, and as a leader. The first step of reconciliation was tough but God used it in rich ways for my growth and sanctification.Brody’s father fell back into sexual addition that he struggled with before he was a believer. His successes and failures affected everything and everyone around him, but God’s grace is bigger than the failures of our parents. Christians, we need to remember that we are children of God. You might be a school teacher, a pastor, a fighter pilot, or you might be a combat veteran who wrestles with finding their identity outside of the service. You might be retired and trying to find your identity. You may be a young woman or a young man who is starting your career right now is the time to establish that your identity is in Christ. Don’t pursue the approval of others—it will eclipse your main focus of knowing Christ and becoming more like Him. Then, you’ll be pursuing whatever you think you need to be or what others think you need to be. It’s a slippery slope.Who you are is determined by how you perceive Jesus and what you do with Him. The Bible teaches us that we can know we have salvation. Doubt seems to be the most common struggle of Christians in American churches (not just students). We doubt our salvation, we doubt God’s goodness, we doubt God’s previous works, and we doubt God’s ability to do something.Doubt is a direct attack on faith, so the way we must attack doubt is by growing our faith stronger. Doubt & Faith: Assurance of Our Salvation

"Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does disaster come to a city, unless the Lord has done it?" Amos 3:6These words are notable for us in the midst of a global crisis. God’s people need to take note of His works and be ready with a posture of repentance. As a Christian, how should we respond to the disaster of the COVID-19 pandemic? Amos was a shepherd who was chosen by God to serve to speak His Words to the people of Israel. God spoke judgment against the pagans peoples, then against Judah, and finally against His people (Israel). He is in command of all things, at all times. We can’t explain every act of the Lord, but we must turn our hearts toward Him in humility and repentance. Seek the Lord, depart from wickedness, and strive for holiness. Does Disaster Come to a City, Unless the Lord Has Done it?

Whatever God gives you, make sure to be faithful with that—even if it seems little right now. The Lord will bless and give you more responsibility. King David was chosen by God and anointed as the new king while serving his father as a young shepherd. He showed periods of strong faithfulness and obedience, then fell hard in several key areas of life. David killed Goliath, but at the end of David’s life Israel still hadn’t driven out their enemies.No matter what you do, no matter where you’ve been, you cannot out-sin the grace of Jesus. You cannot halt the power and ability of Jesus to forgive you. And that should give us strength, hope, and encouragement.References1 Samuel 16-312 Samuel 5-10Quotes“Then all of a sudden, David falls. He just falls, he crashes and he crashes hard. But what’s beautiful about the story is David’s reaction. It’s one of repentance. When we’re confronted with our own sin we tend to either blame someone else or make excuses. When you’re confronted with your own failure (your own sin) do you tend to blame someone else? Do you tend to make an excuse? David does neither to Nathan and instead says, ‘I’ve sinned against the Lord.’”“There are two things…that I want to leave with you. The first one is repentance. This is what repentance looks like: Humbling of myself and admission of my sin. The second thing is humility. True repentance is always going to come with humility. If I’m making an excuse for my sin, that’s not true repentance. If I’m justifying my action, that’s not true repentance. Humility always accompanies repentance. What is the verbal plenary inspiration of Scripture? Every Man is a Theologian 

We were created for eternity. This is a boot camp to prepare us to reign with Christ for eternity. The only thing that matters on that day is: “What did we do with Him?” We need to have eternity in view with everything we do. This is a conversation based on Gar  Bozeman’s study prep for Be Strong 2020 (spring conference).  Christ is King! This passage in Revelation 19 gives Christians hope for the return of Christ.  We must look forward to Christ’s Second Coming and remember that He will exalt us higher than we could ever imagine in this life. Jesus is going to return and He is going to set everything right. The Church, the Bride of Christ, has an active role on that day. How should Christians view the use of weapons for self-defense? Throughout history, God has used people (with weapons in their hands) to stop evildoers. Scripture speaks against retaliation and protecting against persecution, but also describes the reality of self-protection. While we carry a weapon and prepare for danger, we do not trust those weapons as our savior. Our hope is in the sovereign hand of God.Your mindset is important and your level of training is important. Carrying a weapon comes with a high level of responsibility. The charge is for men to be ready to fight and protect those around him from evil. Carry a Sword, Trust in the Lord 

How do you deal with temptation? Temptation itself is not sin. How do we live in the reality of temptation, but not yield to it?We must be sober-minded. Our flesh is tempted to sin against the holiness of God. Temptation promises temporary satisfaction that is followed by immediate regret and shame. It’s not worth it!Don’t focus on habits. Temptation is a desire-level issue. Don’t try to “get more motivated.” Our desires need to be renewed by Jesus. Only after that will we be able to chisel in some healthy habits.Pray for faith. Ask God to give you practical wisdom in the moment. God’s desire is to make you more like Jesus.
