Should be in, should get into that. That'd be awesome. Wow. I am going to go over something this week that I I think I have went over before, but maybe not as much detail this week. We're gonna talk about the national emphasis programs of local emphasis programs and compliance letters in general. And the angle that we're going to use for this one is this is information for you. We're going to seek this out as information and we're going to glean as much information as we can get for product and services from the national emphasis programs, local emphasis programs, regional local emphasis programs, whatever they are. Mm So we're going to show you that. And by we I mean me, I am just me. I had to get away from the we a long time ago and here I'm going back to it. So this is going to be an episode where I'm going to talk to you a lot about. I just really wanted to help you with your chops, help you with some of the things that you really should know should understand as a safety consultant that's going to help you. I'm going to do this through the eyes of ocean in the U. S. Bayside. However, I'm sure for the country you're in, if it has a formal regulatory agency for safety and health, there's gonna be some rules that the compliance officers will have to look for themselves and do themselves and usually that's going to be housed in some sort of documentation. So it's easier for the agency to train people and also for defensible information. So you could go back and say this is what was required of me by law And this is what the compliance officer did not see. So it's a playbook of sorts. So for OSHA, that playbook is housed in two major places. One will be the preamble to the laws and the preamble. Zor the pathway that the laws took in order for them to get into the federal register to be housed there and to be canonized if you will or codified into the rules. That's where you get your parts and construction 1926, industry 1910 and OSHA standards and so on and so forth. Right? So in order to get there, it goes through some processes. Some steps to preamble is where that's going to be housed. The other thing is going to be the compliance letters that you're going to be able to see and get a good understanding and the compliance letters is a set of rules and just it outlines how a compliance officer should do their job when they're inspecting this specific thing. So first, OSHA has really, um, to understand OSHA, they're a reactionary by nature. However, they do do some proactive ideas and proactive things for safety and health or at least encourage that. But for the most part, as an entity of enforcement, sometimes by nature. They have to be reactive because you can't regulate something that someone doesn't do. So you need the action. So the action is going to lead to you doing a regulation after an action. So you're a reactionary agency at that point they do have again some proactive things that you could see that OSHA has put in part for compliance assistance which is great but not just compliance assistance. They're actually looking for uh welcome for your clients and for your companies and everything else. You're not looking just for compliance assistance. You're looking to go beyond that. But for the talk that we're going to do today, we're just thinking of how are you going to understand the regulator's role on what they're going to do when they show up to say I'm doing this type of inspection. So as always I'm going to lead you on a verbal a verbal path to finding this on the ocean website. So as you're scrolling down and you're looking at this page, you're looking at the words directive national emphasis programs. You're going to see a tab underneath a paragraph that tells you what a national emphasis program is which is temporary programs that focus on O'shea's resources that focus oceans, resources on particular hazards and high hazard industries existing and potential new emphasis programs are evaluated using inspection data, injury and illness data, National institute, occupational Safety and health NIOSH reports, peer review literature, analysis of inspection findings and other information sources. So that's where the choice for national emphasis comes from. Currently on the list is combustible dust, coronavirus. Has this material Heat X. Chrome led primary medal in industries, process safety management, ship breaking rest rubble, crystalline silica trenching and excavation. So those activities are currently on the national emphasis program in the US. So let me give you for instance, I do a lot of uh compliance issues with trenching excavation, silica for construction. Those are the two things that you'll see often. Um The heat is another one that is a big one that I see process safety management. Especially for those with chlorine gas because that's my specialty. So in those areas then yes, I see those. So for instance, let's say I am going to I'm going to have a client and I want to instruct them about how is she going to be looking for compliance on let's say trenching excavation. So I would click on that national emphasis program. There's a pdf hyperlink on the page. That's the one I usually click on. First thing I look for is how many pages in that directive. And this one is just 10 pages right on top. It tells you the purpose this instruction national emphasis program. A trenching and excavation describes policies and procedures for continued implementation of an OSHA National emphasis program to identify and to reduce hazards which are causing or likely to cause serious injuries and fatalities during trenching excavation operations. So right here you're seeing Just different wording that oh she's telling you why they're using this particular word for trenching excavation. A little further down still on page one tells you cancelation. So this is important to understand. So this will let you know which document has jurisdiction or say which document currently is the one that is the guiding document for the agency. So you wanna look at other compliance layers. They'll tell you C. P. L. 020069. This instruction will supersede that compliance letter and a few other things that it's going to supersede because this one is the most recent. So that's the first thing I'm going to look for in this national emphasis program and then you want to know any kind of significant changes between the current national emphasis program and the one that is replacing. So you can understand now that there's either an update in the data or updated technology or something that OSHA says we need to change the old compliance letter to this new thing. So the next thing you're going to see with the compliance layers as you scroll down, I'm going to do this one through the table of contents. So you guys get a nice understanding purpose scope references, cancelations, aspiration Nate office actions, state plan impact background procedures recording in the O. I. S. Which is the Ocean Information System and then outreach. So those are the headings in the table of contents. I'm going to scroll down to the procedures which is going to be in your number nine in their compliance letter and it's actually going to be on page three but the procedure is going to tell you the compliance officer's procedure. So I'm going to start with a and I'm just going to read what this kind of looks like to you so you can get an idea of what this compliance letter will mean to you when you get a hold of it and you really understand it. So now when it's your turn to advise a client who's doing this activity or exposed to this hazard, you now could be able to speak to them in the terms that they know the ocean will speak to them in or your regulatory agency for your country. So here's a in their procedures, compliance officers co shows here as U. C. C. E. S. H. O. With a little lower case S on the bottom. Co shows shall initiate inspection under the National emphasis program whenever they observe an open trench or an open excavation, regardless of whether or not a violation is readily observed. So therefore in the very first sentence in the procedure, you already know something about the compliance officer's directives on trenching excavation. They shall initiate an inspection if they see something that's observable or not as being a violation. If just the mere fact of senior excavation initiates that they must stop. Does all inspections and compliance officers stop? Uh now, but this is the directive from this National emphasis program tells you that they shall initiate inspections under this National emphasis program whenever they observe an open trench or an open excavation, regardless of whether or not a violation is readily observed. 1st 1st 1st, 1st thing that in itself should tell you that it's important, right? So it is truly one of those things that you're going to have to look for in any of these compliance letters. What is the detail? The procedure is a big one. Another thing. Same paragraph in a cell G these observations may occur during the course of a normal workday travel or engaged in programmed unprogrammed inspections, trenching excavation operations will also be assigned to inspections as a result of incidents referrals and complaints so that right there is telling you why OSHA will be there. Why are they showing up? Uh, and then later on in here they tell you a little bit about everything be tells you in this trenching excavation example when co show observed trenching excavation operation but are unable to begin immediate inspection. They shall notify an area office of their observation kosher shall provide the area office with the following information. So they want to know where everything is the state and condition of the operations. They want to know who is the contractor, how many workers. And then also they're gonna know something about trenching excavation because they're also required to kind of do like a little sketch or some photography or something to let the person who's going to take over the case, get a good understanding of what's going on. And so bunch of all the rules and ranks that the compliance officer needs to do. But what you're really looking for is a good understanding of what the rules are of engagement. That's the way I'm going to say the rules of engagement and this document is going to help you. So once you do End up understanding this document for one item, good at the next good in the next. Whatever your specialties are, you may have a specialty in these particular constituents, process industry or whatever it is. But you may not know how a regulator is looking for these things. You may only know what you are. And then if you're in a certain area, you can now look at your region and that's going to be a regional local emphasis program. You click on that. And right now I'm in Florida. So I'm in region four in OSHA. It's telling me there's an emphasis in construction emphasis on ship, boat build and repair industries falls in construction, electrical hazards, landscaping, poultry processing, um, a few other things here in my region. So let's say I wanted to target landscapers as being my clients. It's a regional emphasis program according to my, my notes right here. When I clicked on the directives. And as I'm looking at the pdf for pages. All right. Not a whole bunch of regulation on it, but four pages is telling me that ocean is not only looking for looking for some hazards related to landscaping, but it's also telling me since it's four pages, it's almost cut and dry the regulation side. So that means that it's going to be pretty much easy to understand that. So I would go into that. I click on the PdF and then I read the PDS and then I want to understand what will be the procedures that OSHA is going to be looking for. What's the compliance officer needs to do is he directed to stop any time in the course of his day in traveling. If you witnesses conditions of landscaping either where the workers are just exposed to the actual landscaping activity or does that need to be a hazard observed before they stop? That's all in here. So you really should be looking at the document, getting an understanding. I've been known to print these things out and actually just went ahead and at lunch or whenever I'm just, I know as I'm saying this, the nerd alert thing is just going off in my brain. You know, I am just like all kinds of like nerdy just by saying this one here. But as nerdy as I am, it's still the truth. You have to understand this stuff deeply. If you're going to be the trusted advisor, the consultant to help someone else. So that's the secret sauce information right there compliance letters and look for compliance letters. Look for regulatory compliance And again, that's going to be basics. It's going to be baseline. You're not going to be excelling in safety and health. However, you're going to keep yourself out of hot water with the regulator and not get fined. So that's the benefit to everything there. So honestly, that is truly what I wanted to go over today. There was just so much in my brain about what you needed to learn, what I haven't talked about in a while and this is one of the things I was thinking about. Oh yeah. Regional and local emphasis programs. You could use this thing a line, another quick thought on this one that you could use it for is truly you could understand this thing to such a detail that you start teaching people on it and you can make it a product where you could use it as a webinar, you can teach your specific service how to understand this thing and have compliance guidance for specific industry using this document, you can do courses, do webinars seminars, whatever the documents here for that. You know, I am just like all kinds of like nerdy just by saying this one here. But as nerdy as I am, it's still the truth. You have to understand this stuff deeply. If you're going to be the trusted advisor, the consultant to help someone else. So that's the secret sauce information right there compliance letters and look for compliance letters. Look for regulatory compliance And again, that's going to be basics. It's going to be baseline. You're not going to be excelling in safety and health. However, you're going to keep yourself out of hot water with the regulator and not get fined. So that's the benefit to everything there. So honestly, that is truly what I wanted to go over today. There was just so much in my brain about what you needed to learn, what I haven't talked about in a while and this is one of the things I was thinking about. Oh yeah. Regional and local emphasis programs. You could use this thing a line, another quick thought on this one that you could use it for is truly you could understand this thing to such a detail that you start teaching people on it and you can make it a product where you could use it as a webinar, you can teach your specific service how to understand this thing and have compliance guidance for specific industry using this document, you can do courses, do webinars seminars, whatever the documents here for that. Utilizing Regulator Compliance Letters for Client Services

We are actually going to be talking about mistakes as you can see by the headliner. So mistakes may actually be a misnomer as a word, as a phrase. We might not be thinking that we've made a mistake later on when we learned from those things, but in the moment we're like dag nab it, I just did this. So in those cases then at that point you are probably just truly beating yourself up more than anything and not ready to learn the lessons. So in this episode, what we're gonna do is we're going to go over just the mayor thought about mistakes and what they've done some things I've done in my life and that honestly, it's a misnomer that worried we probably shouldn't be using it in this context. It might be, may be used in a short term context, in the moment, it felt like a mistake as opposed to long term where you were going to grow from it. So we're going to focus on some of the things you could do with growing from it. So since it's just me, you know what I like to do if it's just me, let's just go ahead and get into it. So yeah, look at them, Get my music up as you guys can tell, I've been going back to the music because I feel comfortable with speaking over music. It helps me personally, I know there's been about a year's worth of episodes where I do not have music in the background and here you go now, hearing it again. So for some of you that aren't familiar, this is something I've done in a long time. So this is an old school thing, old school jam. So what we're talking about today is mistakes or at least a perceived mistakes. So let's say it that way, they're perceived mistakes. Here's a story for me. So as something, you know, I got into the waist order field first. It's one of the things that I was doing, I was working for the city of Orlando and working for the city of Orlando, I was a waste order operator, that was my gig and that was my job. I'm still a licensed wastewater operator today. Um when I got my masters, I decided that all right, that's it. I'm going to go ahead and uh do actual wastewater consulting. So I honestly knew that I was capable of on a high level to figure out what was wrong with the plant and then not only what was wrong with the plan, how to fix it. Yeah, that's that's the two things that you know, you got to do as a consultant. Right? So I thought that was my path and I started a business called utility compliance inc and that was the pathway that I took with that one. And with the utility compliance inc I honestly was thinking that people are going to be blowing down my doors, calling me constantly to figure out their waste order plants and and figure out what was going on and troubleshoot their process and help them with the management side and submit reports to D. P. Which is Department of Environmental Protection. Because at that time I wasn't uh I wasn't with occupational safety and health as much with the regulation side because florida didn't have OSHA regulation because there's no state ocean. So I was mostly D. O. T. Excuse me, D. E. P. Department of Environmental Protection. So in that mindset I honestly thought I had that skill set, I had the knowledge it's a job that I had been doing forever. If I had somebody who could do this job for me, I'll take them up in a heartbeat on this and that's what I was going to do. So utility compliance inc was born my first business. Um and I did everything I needed to do to keep it legal and I worked it for quite a bit and then I just could not sustain work. So what happens next is this eventually I branch off to shell road safety, which is me and my business partner Kevin Yarbrough and we still have that today. We're not working as much together, but we still have it on the books. Uh, and I added some safety components because I figured I know safety, I've been doing safety for a long time. I'll do utility compliance for E. P. A. Let me do utility compliance and utility information regarded occupational safety and health. So that was the thing that I decided to do. So when deciding to do that, I opened up a whole new career. I started really thinking about, uh, compliance issues first with states and counties. And then eventually I got into compliance issues with OSHA did some OSHA training so I could get my 10 and 30 hour and teach people the 10 and 30 our material for OSHA and general industry and construction, uh, started going that route. So was it a mistake? And the time for me to get that utility compliance, it was done. I needed that. I needed that to launch me to give me the confidence to leave the job I was working with with the state of florida and start working for myself. So I don't think of that even though I had to close out the business and do the paperwork to legally shut it down. But that to me isn't a loss. It isn't a mistake. It helped me grow me mature me some of the things that I've seen on that in that process started building in me an idea and I took it and I ran with it and here I am. So I'm grateful for that. There may be some things in your life that's as far as you're concerned in a moment. Could be a mistake. Maybe you shouldn't have done this. Maybe you shouldn't invest it here. However, in hindsight or as time goes by, you're like, oh wait, there's something I could do with this thing or you're so disgusted if you want to use that phrase with yourself, as some people might say. And now you decide that you're gonna, you know, look for the good out of this. And then as you're searching for the good out of the situation just to give yourself a break, then you can find out. All right, All right, we did good here. I know it didn't look good at first, but now I can see that I got important information from this activity. So that's the key glean information as you can. Sometimes you're too close to see it. So if that's the case and you're too close to see it, you might have to go ahead and talk to someone who does the maybe a little bit further away from it, ask them to help you out. Give you some perspective on what your decision was. That's trillion stakes no matter what you do in the moment may seem like a mistake I shouldn't say no matter what I need context or else it's hyperbole whatever that word is. So the moral of this podcast is try to learn make it a speculative loss. If anything goes down and you feel it's a loss, let's make this thing a speculative loss meaning there is a hope of something you could glean from this event. So that's my that's what I'm trying to say. Clean something from that event, be like the phoenix and rise from the ashes, beautiful bird once again. All right gang. Today I'm gonna talk a little bit about our safety consultant tv product product. I have been working on this one for a while and the safety consultant tv is one of the things that I came out of me answering the same questions over and over. Not this down like you know, I I don't mind the questions is just mayor frequency of the same questions will lead you to try to get an answer. That will be yeah, maybe um I'm gonna answer the same. So what I did is I created a way or that those answers to to happen. So safety consultant tv is what that is. So I want to make sure I get you guys the best and I've been testing it for a while and I really feel it's time to give it a proper launch. So hang in there with me and we're going to go over the safety consultant tv. this is the labor of love. I've been doing that will help you with your business today. I mean absolutely. So just hang in there with me and we'll go through this one together. So since I got my board I can do all the cool things. I can actually fade in. Nice. Right. I missed the board. I couldn't do interviews because the only mike that I would have would be the mic that is from my camera. So for some of you who has already been following me for a while you know that I've had a couple of things going on all the times but the idea behind safety consultant tv came from two prior things and it was all from my students asking me um and we're not students that not all students but students and some people on linkedin and other areas they would ask me questions related to starting their business and what to do. So um it came my mindset was alright, we'll do a book, so I did seven steps and starting a profitable safety consulting business. So I said the book is good, it's a smaller one, but it's a good start, let's go with a course. So after that it created the safety consultant blueprint course and really just broke it down, I mean broke it down, I ain't even broke it down, shattered shards, small pieces, that's how much I broke this thing down. So that was the course, bite sized pieces of how to start your business little by little and then some other things such as uh your written programs, you know how you're gonna do your permit required confined space, how are you going to do uh some of the other areas such as has come and everything else, so that's part of it, they're just giving you guys that and then also uh it is part of the course is, you know, how do you do your proposals and everything else after a while of that and getting some really good feedback from students who have gone through the blueprint course um I was thinking we want to do something that just might be even easier for everybody. And then so we got our headphones in and we're entertaining yourselves so that hey, you could learn a little bit about the safety consultant tv. So it's honestly broken up in a way that it's easy to digest. Its in the playlist format. So in a playlist format that just means that you're gonna be able to um just imagine where you would, you would try to find an information. So such as you're thinking, oh man, I need this permit required confined space template that he has and there's templates in there and I'll tell you about that next and you're like where would that be? And you go through the playlist and one of the playlist has safety and health written programs. That would be your tip off. So you go to that one, you click on that safety and health written programs, there's over 61 videos in the hole and keep adding. I want to make sure it's regular content. But in this particular one there's 13 videos. It was set up about safety and health where explained different safety and health policies and procedures and I'm showing you the policies and procedures that I use. So you have playlist resources and that is where you can download the actual templates I'm using. So the safety consultant side is, you know, could have this template that you can use for your clients. That's the idea. Today I'm gonna talk a little bit about our safety consultant tv product product. I have been working on this one for a while and the safety consultant tv is one of the things that I came out of me answering the same questions over and over. Not this down like you know, I I don't mind the questions is just mayor frequency of the same questions will lead you to try to get an answer. That will be yeah, maybe um I'm gonna answer the same. So what I did is I created a way or that those answers to to happen. So safety consultant tv is what that is. So I want to make sure I get you guys the best and I've been testing it for a while and I really feel it's time to give it a proper launch. So hang in there with me and we're going to go over the safety consultant tv. this is the labor of love. I've been doing that will help you with your business today. I mean absolutely. So just hang in there with me and we'll go through this one together. So since I got my board I can do all the cool things. I can actually fade in. Nice. Right. I missed the board. I couldn't do interviews because the only mike that I would have would be the mic that is from my camera. So the camera mic is what you guys have been hearing me with the last couple of weeks so it's been really just frustrating because it's not a quality mike it's okay but it's not a quality mic because everything goes through the board all my mix and everything else goes through my road caster and then I got it back I'll be able to go ahead and um yeah we'll just be a little bit more free loose. So for some of you who has already been following me for a while you know that I've had a couple of things going on all the times but the idea behind safety consultant tv came from two prior things and it was all from my students asking me um and we're not students that not all students but students and some people on linkedin and other areas they would ask me questions related to starting their business and what to do. So um it came my mindset was alright, we'll do a book, so I did seven steps and starting a profitable safety consulting business. So I said the book is good, it's a smaller one, but it's a good start, let's go with a course. So after that it created the safety consultant blueprint course and really just broke it down, I mean broke it down, I ain't even broke it down, shattered shards, small pieces, that's how much I broke this thing down. So that was the course, bite sized pieces of how to start your business little by little and then some other things such as uh your written programs, you know how you're gonna do your permit required confined space, how are you going to do uh some of the other areas such as has come and everything else, so that's part of it, they're just giving you guys that and then also uh it is part of the course is, you know, how do you do your proposals and everything else after a while of that and getting some really good feedback from students who have gone through the blueprint course um I was thinking we want to do something that just might be even easier for everybody. This is the podcast where I teach you the business of being a safety consultant. Welcome. Well today I am officially noticing my beginning of my fourth year. So when you're going to see the podcast, you're going to see it in seasons. This podcast right now is going to be season number four. So that means I'm the beginning of my fourth year. It's just awesome. Even thinking that I've made it four years 170 something episodes. So I guess I should start thinking about my 2/100 episode this year. Well look at that. I didn't even think about that until just now. Well time does fly. So what we're gonna do this episode is we're actually going to be semi reflective. I'm just going over a few things that I've learned over the last three years. You can even call it the seven things I've learned over the last few years. I'm sure there'll be something else will pop up in my brain as I'm talking. But that's what we're gonna do today. We're going to go over that. And even, I guess reflecting on some of the changes right? There's been a lot of changes throughout my, my career as a podcaster. So I'm actually going to just focus in on the major change or I should say the major thing that I've learned and then we'll go down to some of the other stuff I got a list over here. So you might even here my, my paper going in the background so I'm going to start with my number one, seeing most people do it in like reverse order. I ain't got no time for that. Yeah, I just like starting with number one, that's maybe a flaw. Maybe I need to advance, what am I going to do with you guys? So you could get to to see that I am a professional broadcaster and I do things in the traditional broadcast way now. Honestly, I just like my numbers. So number one, the first thing that I've really learned about The last three years of podcasting, people love resources. I mean they just eat up resources whenever I could do anything resource wise, even on my social media, I get a lot of people that they want to get that or they downloaded or something similar. So like for instance if you want to listen to this podcast on the actual podcast page, you go to podcast, it's a P O d C A S T s dot be cast dot FM for its lads safety consultant. I'm working on that. I'm gonna get something really uh fancy like I had before. But right now that's it. So podcasts with an s dot be cast dot FM for slash safety consultant. And the resource in particular on that page is when you go to the page you can actually keep up with the show, you'll give me your name and email and in return you get the book, my book that I wrote a few years back seven steps or starting a profitable safety consultant business. I have been noticing a lot of people are into that resource. That's pretty cool. So that means to me that it's a topic that people in the safety field when you're ready to branch out and get away from being the primary safety officer at your facility and take your talents elsewhere, then you could learn how to do that. And I do see like people love resources in other ways, sometimes doing a post and in most of the places I post will be my linkedin page And I also have a linkedin group called OSHA compliance help and that's open to the public. So if you guys are in linkedin, go ahead and look up group Ocean compliance help. And I also have one for the water and wastewater field and that's for my resources for safety. Excuse me for wastewater supervisors and superintendents. That was my old job. So I did something there. But what this indicates to me is people are looking for the easy button as much as they can. If it's not the easy button then they're looking for some verification on things or they might just love to learn. So resources are always good. I'm trying to do my best to make sure that I give you guys the resources you need with the podcast and if anything I think about it, I'll throw that in. Um just just to make sure that you get you, get what you need. Alright, second thing that I learned is podcasting is hard. It honestly is. You're thinking about your time, you're thinking about the medium itself because you're only listening to my voice, you don't get to see me. So I've got to make sure that the voice sounds good and all the other stuff that goes into editing. I bought this really fancy board. So if I needed to, I could give you guys a nice big round of applause. Yeah, Yeah. Or if I just say something that's just really crazy. Get a whole bunch of other songs, voices in there too. If I'm funny, you know, all that kind of stuff. So that is the things that you need resource wise to hold people's attention when you only have their ears as being how they connect with you. So in doing that there's all kinds of stuff you've got to think about your voice inflection and you've got to think about what you are listening to as far as your devices. I've got to make sure my audio is good enough and you're not getting blasted with music and then real quiet with my voice and you have to keep cranking up your radio and up and down and up and down. So that's all stuff that I had to learn along the way. I'm still getting Still in there. Not, not, not 100%, but still working on that one to sell my point to podcasting. It was pretty hard, but it's fun. It's rewarding. Number three is capturing people's attention virtually is a skill. So I already talked about that a little bit when I said podcasting is hard and told you the things that I used. But quite honestly, I only have a few seconds with people and if they are not drawn in by even the introduction music, which is my Bruce lee that I wrote several several years ago. If you're not familiar with all the music on the episode is up one song, uh they're they're mine. So I've got to even grab people with just the music itself. And the only one song that's not mine is the one that I paid for it. So that one isn't actually mine. But other than that, everything else is. So in doing that and grabbing people's attention, they only got a short amount of time to do that. And even when I'm talking, I can't go monotone or I can't blow your heirs out with modulation. I gotta be on my game for however long I got you, I've been doing some shorter podcasts for that reason and when I interview, I got to make sure that I'm making the person that I'm interviewing as exciting as I can to and that's why I have to probe at some questions there too. Alright. We're on number four things that I've learned throughout my time is starting season four is that you guys will let me know when there's something good or not on there. And um you may not do it directly like sending me an email every now and then I do get those. But generally how I know is by my, my back end numbers. So for most of you, that's why you hear a lot with the Youtubers and podcasters to like and subscribe and if you listen to an episode all the way through all that helps us. So what we're looking at is there's in the back end for every podcast you do have matrix to let you know who's listening to. What, when are they listening? How long are they listening? And eventually those are the matrix that you use for sponsorship. So I get a lot of downloads but listens not as much and then subscribers. I really need to up my subscriber game. So if you're listening to me right now, it would be wonderful if you could subscribe to the podcast, share it with someone else who feel that you feel that would benefit from this. They don't have to be a satan safety consultant. They just have to be in safety and health probably or maybe they just like my voice. Okay. So I definitely have learned that whenever you here is something that you like, I could tell by the listener ship and how that's going up. So generally speaking, that's you liking listening through telling a friend. Hey, did you hear this episode or on your social media? When you see that I've posted something regarding the episode you shared. So that's all you know, very, very important for me and I thank you all that have been doing that. Thank you so much. Number five, this one, it's one of those things I've always struggled with, so I'm in year four and I've only sponsored myself. Number six out of my list is safety and health is so multifaceted and it's changing quite a bit and I'm recently, like now, getting into a book by uh, Dr Sidney Dekker, dr Todd Conklin together do safety differently. I've actually been kind of drawn to that myself, you know, safety has really been more recently and even more over and over has been the absence of anything going wrong, like someone having an injury or illness or your Osho logs or all the other lagging indicators and everyone will put the onus on how safe they are by the absence of these events. Whereas the book and some of the other things I've been seeing with safety is maybe we should be looking at more as a capacity for growth or capacity for the organization to value low risk activities versus how many days you didn't have an accident. So I'm really approaching that of philosophy more and more. I have been in the past, especially when I was a manager. But I'm just now really wanted to understand it more deeply and I picked that up from the podcast just from different interviews and talking to the different, different people, even my research as to who am I going to interview next or just anything like that. I honestly start feeling that the deeper I go into safety and understanding the complexities, it's almost just a bottomless pit of just information if you will and then you get your specialist and when they just like double down on something and you're like, hold on, that's just hearing protection. I don't know about that and or something similar. Gas detection, wow, my interview with Jason call, you know, talking about gas monitoring, which I've used my whole life. But he goes on there and just tells me stuff that I'm like, oh my goodness! From my professional career. Until now, I have never even thought of this and it's just been wonderful. That's one of the things I've learned, I learned a lot about safety and it's just knowing that I may know a little about a lot of things, but there's some people that know a lot about little things that I really want to interview and get them on. So that's, that's a challenge for myself. And that leads me to my point # seven. So This whole thing started with the things that I've learned going into my four years of podcasting mrs, season four. I've actually learned that like interviewing people, people are usually shy about talking to themselves, talking about themselves. Excuse me. This is the podcast where I teach you the business of being a safety consultant. Welcome. Well today I am officially noticing my beginning of my fourth year. So when you're going to see the podcast, you're going to see it in seasons. This podcast right now is going to be season number four. So that means I'm the beginning of my fourth year. It's just awesome. Even thinking that I've made it four years 170 something episodes. So I guess I should start thinking about my 2/100 episode this year. Well look at that. I didn't even think about that until just now. Well time does fly. So what we're gonna do this episode is we're actually going to be semi reflective. I'm just going over a few things that I've learned over the last three years. You can even call it the seven things I've learned over the last few years. I'm sure there'll be something else will pop up in my brain as I'm talking. But that's what we're gonna do today. We're going to go over that. And even, I guess reflecting on some of the changes right? There's been a lot of changes throughout my, my career as a podcaster. So I'm actually going to just focus in on the major change or I should say the major thing that I've learned and then we'll go down to some of the other stuff I got a list over here. So you might even here my, my paper going in the background so I'm going to start with my number one, seeing most people do it in like reverse order. I ain't got no time for that. Yeah, I just like starting with number one, that's maybe a flaw. Maybe I need to advance, what am I going to do with you guys? So you could get to to see that I am a professional broadcaster and I do things in the traditional broadcast way now. Honestly, I just like my numbers. So number one, the first thing that I've really learned about The last three years of podcasting, people love resources. I mean they just eat up resources whenever I could do anything resource wise, even on my social media, I get a lot of people that they want to get that or they downloaded or something similar. So like for instance if you want to listen to this podcast on the actual podcast page, you go to podcast, it's a P O d C A S T s dot be cast dot FM for its lads safety consultant. I'm working on that. I'm gonna get something really uh fancy like I had before. But right now that's it. So podcasts with an s dot be cast dot FM for slash safety consultant. And the resource in particular on that page is when you go to the page you can actually keep up with the show, you'll give me your name and email and in return you get the book, my book that I wrote a few years back seven steps or starting a profitable safety consultant business. I have been noticing a lot of people are into that resource. That's pretty cool. So that means to me that it's a topic that people in the safety field when you're ready to branch out and get away from being the primary safety officer at your facility and take your talents elsewhere, then you could learn how to do that. And I do see like people love resources in other ways, sometimes doing a post and in most of the places I post will be my linkedin page And I also have a linkedin group called OSHA compliance help and that's open to the public. So if you guys are in linkedin, go ahead and look up group Ocean compliance help. And I also have one for the water and wastewater field and that's for my resources for safety. Excuse me for wastewater supervisors and superintendents. That was my old job. So I did something there. But what this indicates to me is people are looking for the easy button as much as they can. If it's not the easy button then they're looking for some verification on things or they might just love to learn. So resources are always good. I'm trying to do my best to make sure that I give you guys the resources you need with the podcast and if anything I think about it, I'll throw that in. Um just just to make sure that you get you, get what you need. Alright, second thing that I learned is podcasting is hard. It honestly is. You're thinking about your time, you're thinking about the medium itself because you're only listening to my voice, you don't get to see me. So I've got to make sure that the voice sounds good and all the other stuff that goes into editing. I bought this really fancy board. So if I needed to, I could give you guys a nice big round of applause. Yeah, Yeah. Or if I just say something that's just really crazy. Get a whole bunch of other songs, voices in there too. If I'm funny, you know, all that kind of stuff. So that is the things that you need resource wise to hold people's attention when you only have their ears as being how they connect with you. So in doing that there's all kinds of stuff you've got to think about your voice inflection and you've got to think about what you are listening to as far as your devices. I've got to make sure my audio is good enough and you're not getting blasted with music and then real quiet with my voice and you have to keep cranking up your radio and up and down and up and down. So that's all stuff that I had to learn along the way. I'm still getting Still in there. Not, not, not 100%, but still working on that one to sell my point to podcasting. It was pretty hard, but it's fun. It's rewarding. Number three is capturing people's attention virtually is a skill. So I already talked about that a little bit when I said podcasting is hard and told you the things that I used. But quite honestly, I only have a few seconds with people and if they are not drawn in by even the introduction music, which is my Bruce lee that I wrote several several years ago. If you're not familiar with all the music on the episode is up one song, uh they're they're mine. So I've got to even grab people with just the music itself. And the only one song that's not mine is the one that I paid for it. So that one isn't actually mine. But other than that, everything else is. So in doing that and grabbing people's attention, they only got a short amount of time to do that. And even when I'm talking, I can't go monotone or I can't blow your heirs out with modulation. I gotta be on my game for however long I got you, I've been doing some shorter podcasts for that reason and when I interview, I got to make sure that I'm making the person that I'm interviewing as exciting as I can to and that's why I have to probe at some questions there too. Alright. We're on number four things that I've learned throughout my time is starting season four is that you guys will let me know when there's something good or not on there. And um you may not do it directly like sending me an email every now and then I do get those. But generally how I know is by my, my back end numbers. So for most of you, that's why you hear a lot with the Youtubers and podcasters to like and subscribe and if you listen to an episode all the way through all that helps us. So what we're looking at is there's in the back end for every podcast you do have matrix to let you know who's listening to. What, when are they listening? How long are they listening? And eventually those are the matrix that you use for sponsorship. So I get a lot of downloads but listens not as much and then subscribers. I really need to up my subscriber game. Number six out of my list is safety and health is so multifaceted and it's changing quite a bit and I'm recently, like now, getting into a book by uh, Dr Sidney Dekker, dr Todd Conklin together do safety differently. I've actually been kind of drawn to that myself, you know, safety has really been more recently and even more over and over has been the absence of anything going wrong, like someone having an injury or illness or your Osho logs or all the other lagging indicators and everyone will put the onus on how safe they are by the absence of these events. Whereas the book and some of the other things I've been seeing with safety is maybe we should be looking at more as a capacity for growth or capacity for the organization to value low risk activities versus how many days you didn't have an accident. So I'm really approaching that of philosophy more and more. I have been in the past, especially when I was a manager. But I'm just now really wanted to understand it more deeply and I picked that up from the podcast just from different interviews and talking to the different, different people, even my research as to who am I going to interview next or just anything like that. I honestly start feeling that the deeper I go into safety and understanding the complexities, it's almost just a bottomless pit of just information if you will and then you get your specialist and when they just like double down on something and you're like, hold on, that's just hearing protection. I don't know about that and or something similar. Gas detection, wow, my interview with Jason call, you know, talking about gas monitoring, which I've used my whole life. But he goes on there and just tells me stuff that I'm like, oh my goodness! From my professional career. Until now, I have never even thought of this and it's just been wonderful. That's one of the things I've learned, I learned a lot about safety and it's just knowing that I may know a little about a lot of things, but there's some people that know a lot about little things that I really want to interview and get them on. So that's, that's a challenge for myself. And that leads me to my point # seven. So This whole thing started with the things that I've learned going into my four years of podcasting mrs, season four. I've actually learned that like interviewing people, people are usually shy about talking to themselves, talking about themselves. Excuse me. This is the podcast where I teach you the business of being a safety consultant and today we're going to go over the power of an email list. So I know you probably don't really think about an email list when you're thinking about safety consulting and something about safety and health. But honestly, it's truly helping you. It will help you run your business. That's the key. You wanna still have a business going and it's viable. So that's what the email list is going to do today. We're going to talk about the power of having an email list. Yes. Still, even in 2022, you need an email list. And even as consultants, you may need an email list. So we're going to go through that and we're going to let you know about the power of the email list. Mm hmm. So, first, let's talk a little bit about the list itself. Right? So, truly, when you're going to say that you're a business owner, you're going to need to have your consultancy, that's what we're going to call it. Your consultancy have a way to reach out to people who may be interested in hiring you. So, the importance of having an email list is that you now can you can have on your own terms, a way for you to reach out to this individual. So let's say you want to do a facebook group. Okay, you got your facebook group and in that facebook group, you can have people come in and you talk to them back and forth. But now you're dependent on when they could get online to see it. If they're going to be online, sometimes there's weeks that I do not even get onto facebook at all, that would be where your medium would be. And therefore you're only going to have those people see you on their time during um, an internet session. So once they get online, they're going to see that you well, depending they'll get online. But if they don't feel like dealing with facebook at that time, then where are you? Where's your communication with them? So you could do the same thing with all of your social media is linkedin Pinterest if you're using that. Um, even instagram you're then dealing with when people are ready to get online and what they actually see. Sometimes they may not see that on their screen. They may not see certain things on the computer. And then now you're dealing with, did they miss me or not? So that's going to just mess you up because you're going to be thinking you're getting out there and you're going to have your voice out? But generally it's an empty room. I mean literally you are in an empty room mm hmm. So to avoid the crickets, as you're going to be like talking to someone. The best thing that you're going to need to do is you're going to have to get out there and bring them to you through a list. So first let's talk about just the power of this list. And I'm going to give you five things that will show you how powerful an email list would be. And then I'm also going to give you five ways to get an email list. I have talked about this before on the podcast but I just wanted to update just because now we really are going to start seeing some more activity that will lead to building your business. Some of those activities is going to be regulatory things and some of it is just going to be workers or more mindful of safety and health things and they want their bosses to be mindful as well. And that might lead to a consultant call. So here is one of the first reasons to have an email list. You're going to have a direct conversation between you and the persons and persons who may be potentially someone that you're going to work for. The email list is going to be personal to an individual, but each individual represents a company. So as you're going to talk to people, one on one get to know them exchange information. And this talking could be virtually, it could be physically however you guys come in contact. But as you exchange information, just as you would your old business card when you, when you're using that you're looking for the email list. So now once you get the email, this is something someone is going to go too often and I venture to say daily because they're going to want to keep up with things that are happening in their business and now they're going to see messages from you, so it is a direct conversation and you really want to get to people who are influencers or decision makers, so your influencers and your decision makers, that's the emails that you want to get. So secondly, you're going to reach out to people in their inbox and not to feed. So the reason why you want to reach out to someone in an inbox and not to feed is because now if you're reaching them in the inbox, they are actively going to their email, whereas if you get them on a feed you're going to have to think about the time of day that you're going to post and in some cases the person's feed may not show up right away, I have that all the time. I mean as soon as I get online and sometimes it's on facebook, sometimes on instagram and I like something I reply to something and it's literally have been three days that have passed, so with three days passing and here I am trying to act relevant, but literally I did not see it from my phone, so imagine if you're going to use someone's posting in their feed or your own feed as a way for you to reach out to this person, you may not get them in the time that you need. So therefore you're going to reach someone directly right in there in mocks as they're opening it. And it's mostly a daily practice for people to go through their emails. So at that point that's an easier way and a better way to reach them for, for anything, giving them valuable resources, giving them whatever you need, not just sales, because that's, you don't want to abuse the privilege of getting someone's email. Next thing for getting the email is, you're going to allow people to get to know you, you know, you gotta be able to have a conversation with someone more than just a one time. So therefore the email is going to give you that opportunity to truly truly put your, your who you are out, Let people get to hear you, get your, get your, your voice in there. So that means for the email side as you're writing these email messages and you're actually going to be talking sometimes in first person or third, maybe not third, the third person is like if I wrote a live message and say Sheldon so glad that you are here on his email list and might not sound that authentic, but first person it is go ahead and reply to this email if you have any questions because it's coming directly to me and that way everyone knows that hey, Children is, it's not a list per se, even though I am sending out in a group format, but it's a way for someone to know that they could come to me, talk to me directly just by hitting reply. So the next thing that you're gonna do or the reason why the power of an email list, it's, you could give the people on that list direct resources that they need right now. So you can listen to the conversations that are happening or some trends in the industry or even some news that you just got and now you can go ahead and send it directly to that individual. So what you want to do then, as you're sending it to that individual, you're going to give them the news that they want. That means you're going to have to segment your list. So not everyone is going to be interested in oil and gas. Some people may be interested in permit required confined space. Some people may be regulated under OSHA, but then your international list for those, you, in the US, they may not be so keen on Yoshi because that's not the regulatory body. So that means you're gonna separate your list to your best of your degree, your best of your understanding as to people's interest. And then when you're sending them resources, the resources of something, they're interested in the last reason for having an email list and the power of an email list and truly it is like the power I want to just just let you know that I really feel like when you do have an email list and you use it properly, it helps keep you being relevant in people's minds and email by nature is an intimate setting for that individual. So therefore you're catching them a little bit off guard if you will because now as we're going through the email, they know that they could choose to respond right away. They could choose to respond later. You're getting directly to them, gone through their spam filters and everything else. So at that point they could open it knowing that this is someone they know and trust or at least know enough that they trust the email coming from them. So that's why it's important not to do the spamming or anything similar to that because you're truly gonna blow up that relationship, you know that you want to make sure that that person is going to respect the email that's being sent, so you're going to send resources, you're going to send information. I send some personal stuff. Actually I'm starting to send in if you are a traveler and you may know that I travel and that's what my wife and I do. I'm even adding in some stuff with our instagram feed. So instagram for my wife and I underscore dot beyond boundaries dot underscore and instagram. So you'll do the at symbol underscore dot beyond boundaries dot underscore. So the reason why we have to do that is because google not google excuse me on instagram does not like the dot before the name. So we had to do the underlying which is like the very underscoring the bottom and then beyond boundaries, which is our name, our tagline that we have and then that underscore, see now you can find me so now you can see the pictures that we post when we're traveling in our RV going from place to place, town to town. And that's something that I add in my, in my feed that I just started to in my email list because there's a lot of people that want to know what's going on. So not just business. So there you go. That's the wise, we went through five things right there as the power email list. One is direct conversation second as you reach people in their inbox and not to feed, which is going to be quicker response three, you allow people to get to know you or you could directly send resources for your list that interests them because you could segment your list as to the importance of an item or importance of a topic for this person and then lastly it is an intimate setting so you definitely want to respect that but it's also going to be where the person is going to get more in beer to you because they're going to see you often. So it'll feel like there's still part of your life even though you may not have seen them ever in public or in private. So now let's go into the how to get your email is right? You guys know you got to get the email is but you need to know the how. Alright. Yes. Thank you. Thank you very much. I will go over the howl right now for you. So number one, I'm going to give you five house to do it. Your actual teaching. Most consultants, you're also doing some classes while you're there, have an email, sign up sheet for your email list. Put it on, I don't know, put it in the front by your desk. So when people are asking questions, they could write it there, you can put in the back of the room. So as they come in or on your roster, when you're actually having people fill out their information, that's going to get their certificate sent to them, put an email line in there. The reason why you want that email line is now you're populating your list. So start there a second, you may have a product that you could give away. So if you're going to give away a product might as well do it in some format where you could get an email, someone is going to get an entry and then at the end of that entry time period where you're doing your giveaway period. Then now you've populated a list and whoever wins. Obviously they're going to get that giveaway could be time, it could be a product such as a e book. It could even be where you're going to send them Some resource that no one else has just by winning and being part of your your giveaway if you would, another way to get people on that list is going to be by doing events. So go ahead and hold your own events. I haven't done one in a while. I me too. It's only February in 2022 at the time of this recording but I'm probably going to try to get one in the spring and do one in the fall kind of spread out, you know, but I'll have to look at my schedule. But what will happen is once you set up your event you put the event on and in order for someone to register for the event to get their email. So when you get the email that's going to start the conversation there's many things you could do. You could do automated emails and everything else but at least you want the email to start the conversation and from there you work out the rest and then the other details. And uh, then you'll be able to see email marketing on that playlist and just go ahead and go through the different types of ways that now after you get your email list, how can you maximize that list? So you can get that information at safety consultant that tv next is you could give out resources on a landing page. So on your email server, whatever server your system you use. Normally they have something called a landing page. You get set up and what that is is even if you don't have a domain and an email, excuse me, a domain and website. Using your email server, then you could put up a landing page. So you can now say you can get this free book over here and on your email client. They're going to take the person through the process of putting in their email to get the resources that you, you made for them. So that's using a landing page. That's what it's called to build your email list. Mm hmm. And the very last tip I'm going to give you guys on how to get an email and starting an email list. Ask for it, password on your social media. Just say on your linkedin or facebook something that you're using that. Hey, I am interested in keeping in touch with you. Please send me your email and I will send you resources that you could choose. Put your email on the post and you're gonna get some response. It may not be as big a response as you will if you're getting some of the other ways, but it's still a way to reach out and tell people, hey, I'm gonna offer some content specific to you. Send me an email with your industry that you're in and then I can start making sure that you get emails that you need. So that is one way of doing it. So How to get emails # one in your class rosters, number two doing a giveaway where there's a prize and during the period that you're offering this prize, you're collecting emails doing events. So it is sign up process for events. And then you're also getting some emails having a landing page from an email server system that you use. And on that landing page you could have someone that give you their email in exchange for direct resource. You're getting right there right then and you could go ahead and ask for it and linkedin and other social media is make an announcement on your page saying you want to connect with you, your list a little bit more and you might want to use the list but connect to your connections. If you're on linkedin or people who are in your group members in a more private setting. So you're gonna go ahead and say, please send me your email by replying to Sheldon at or whatever your name is. This is the podcast where I teach you the business of being a safety consultant and today we're going to go over the power of an email list. So I know you probably don't really think about an email list when you're thinking about safety consulting and something about safety and health. But honestly, it's truly helping you. It will help you run your business. That's the key. You wanna still have a business going and it's viable. So that's what the email list is going to do today. We're going to talk about the power of having an email list. Yes. Still, even in 2022, you need an email list. And even as consultants, you may need an email list. So we're going to go through that and we're going to let you know about the power of the email list. Mm hmm. So, first, let's talk a little bit about the list itself. Right? So, truly, when you're going to say that you're a business owner, you're going to need to have your consultancy, that's what we're going to call it. Your consultancy have a way to reach out to people who may be interested in hiring you. So, the importance of having an email list is that you now can you can have on your own terms, a way for you to reach out to this individual. So let's say you want to do a facebook group. Okay, you got your facebook group and in that facebook group, you can have people come in and you talk to them back and forth. But now you're dependent on when they could get online to see it. If they're going to be online, sometimes there's weeks that I do not even get onto facebook at all, that would be where your medium would be. And therefore you're only going to have those people see you on their time during um, an internet session. So once they get online, they're going to see that you well, depending they'll get online. But if they don't feel like dealing with facebook at that time, then where are you? Where's your communication with them? So you could do the same thing with all of your social media is linkedin Pinterest if you're using that. Um, even instagram you're then dealing with when people are ready to get online and what they actually see. Sometimes they may not see that on their screen. They may not see certain things on the computer. And then now you're dealing with, did they miss me or not? So that's going to just mess you up because you're going to be thinking you're getting out there and you're going to have your voice out? But generally it's an empty room. I mean literally you are in an empty room mm hmm. So to avoid the crickets, as you're going to be like talking to someone. The best thing that you're going to need to do is you're going to have to get out there and bring them to you through a list. So first let's talk about just the power of this list. And I'm going to give you five things that will show you how powerful an email list would be. And then I'm also going to give you five ways to get an email list. I have talked about this before on the podcast but I just wanted to update just because now we really are going to start seeing some more activity that will lead to building your business. Some of those activities is going to be regulatory things and some of it is just going to be workers or more mindful of safety and health things and they want their bosses to be mindful as well. And that might lead to a consultant call. So here is one of the first reasons to have an email list. You're going to have a direct conversation between you and the persons and persons who may be potentially someone that you're going to work for. The email list is going to be personal to an individual, but each individual represents a company. So as you're going to talk to people, one on one get to know them exchange information. And this talking could be virtually, it could be physically however you guys come in contact. But as you exchange information, just as you would your old business card when you, when you're using that you're looking for the email list. So now once you get the email, this is something someone is going to go too often and I venture to say daily because they're going to want to keep up with things that are happening in their business and now they're going to see messages from you, so it is a direct conversation and you really want to get to people who are influencers or decision makers, so your influencers and your decision makers, that's the emails that you want to get. So secondly, you're going to reach out to people in their inbox and not to feed. So the reason why you want to reach out to someone in an inbox and not to feed is because now if you're reaching them in the inbox, they are actively going to their email, whereas if you get them on a feed you're going to have to think about the time of day that you're going to post and in some cases the person's feed may not show up right away, I have that all the time. I mean as soon as I get online and sometimes it's on facebook, sometimes on instagram and I like something I reply to something and it's literally have been three days that have passed, so with three days passing and here I am trying to act relevant, but literally I did not see it from my phone, so imagine if you're going to use someone's posting in their feed or your own feed as a way for you to reach out to this person, you may not get them in the time that you need. So therefore you're going to reach someone directly right in there in mocks as they're opening it. And it's mostly a daily practice for people to go through their emails. So at that point that's an easier way and a better way to reach them for, for anything, giving them valuable resources, giving them whatever you need, not just sales, because that's, you don't want to abuse the privilege of getting someone's email. Next thing for getting the email is, you're going to allow people to get to know you, you know, you gotta be able to have a conversation with someone more than just a one time. So therefore the email is going to give you that opportunity to truly truly put your, your who you are out, Let people get to hear you, get your, get your, your voice in there. So that means for the email side as you're writing these email messages and you're actually going to be talking sometimes in first person or third, maybe not third, the third person is like if I wrote a live message and say Sheldon so glad that you are here on his email list and might not sound that authentic, but first person it is go ahead and reply to this email if you have any questions because it's coming directly to me and that way everyone knows that hey, Children is, it's not a list per se, even though I am sending out in a group format, but it's a way for someone to know that they could come to me, talk to me directly just by hitting reply. So the next thing that you're gonna do or the reason why the power of an email list, it's, you could give the people on that list direct resources that they need right now. So you can listen to the conversations that are happening or some trends in the industry or even some news that you just got and now you can go ahead and send it directly to that individual. So what you want to do then, as you're sending it to that individual, you're going to give them the news that they want. That means you're going to have to segment your list. So not everyone is going to be interested in oil and gas. Some people may be interested in permit required confined space. Some people may be regulated under OSHA, but then your international list for those, you, in the US, they may not be so keen on Yoshi because that's not the regulatory body. So that means you're gonna separate your list to your best of your degree, your best of your understanding as to people's interest. And then when you're sending them resources, the resources of something, they're interested in the last reason for having an email list and the power of an email list and truly it is like the power I want to just just let you know that I really feel like when you do have an email list and you use it properly, it helps keep you being relevant in people's minds and email by nature is an intimate setting for that individual. So therefore you're catching them a little bit off guard if you will because now as we're going through the email, they know that they could choose to respond right away. They could choose to respond later. You're getting directly to them, gone through their spam filters and everything else. So at that point they could open it knowing that this is someone they know and trust or at least know enough that they trust the email coming from them. So that's why it's important not to do the spamming or anything similar to that because you're truly gonna blow up that relationship, you know that you want to make sure that that person is going to respect the email that's being sent, so you're going to send resources, you're going to send information. I send some personal stuff. Actually I'm starting to send in if you are a traveler and you may know that I travel and that's what my wife and I do. I'm even adding in some stuff with our instagram feed. So instagram for my wife and I underscore dot beyond boundaries dot underscore and instagram. So you'll do the at symbol underscore dot beyond boundaries dot underscore. So the reason why we have to do that is because google not google excuse me on instagram does not like the dot before the name. So we had to do the underlying which is like the very underscoring the bottom and then beyond boundaries, which is our name, our tagline that we have and then that underscore, see now you can find me so now you can see the pictures that we post when we're traveling in our RV going from place to place, town to town. And that's something that I add in my, in my feed that I just started to in my email list because there's a lot of people that want to know what's going on. So not just business. So there you go. That's the wise, we went through five things right there as the power email list. One is direct conversation second as you reach people in their inbox and not to feed, which is going to be quicker response three, you allow people to get to know you or you could directly send resources for your list that interests them because you could segment your list as to the importance of an item or importance of a topic for this person and then lastly it is an intimate setting so you definitely want to respect that but it's also going to be where the person is going to get more in beer to you because they're going to see you often. So it'll feel like there's still part of your life even though you may not have seen them ever in public or in private. So now let's go into the how to get your email is right? You guys know you got to get the email is but you need to know the how. Alright. Yes. Thank you. Thank you very much. I will go over the howl right now for you. So number one, I'm going to give you five house to do it. Your actual teaching. Most consultants, you're also doing some classes while you're there, have an email, sign up sheet for your email list. Put it on, I don't know, put it in the front by your desk. So when people are asking questions, they could write it there, you can put in the back of the room. So as they come in or on your roster, when you're actually having people fill out their information, that's going to get their certificate sent to them, put an email line in there. The reason why you want that email line is now you're populating your list. So start there a second, you may have a product that you could give away. So if you're going to give away a product might as well do it in some format where you could get an email, someone is going to get an entry and then at the end of that entry time period where you're doing your giveaway period. Then now you've populated a list and whoever wins. Obviously they're going to get that giveaway could be time, it could be a product such as a e book. It could even be where you're going to send them Some resource that no one else has just by winning and being part of your your giveaway if you would, another way to get people on that list is going to be by doing events. So go ahead and hold your own events. I haven't done one in a while. I me too. It's only February in 2022 at the time of this recording but I'm probably going to try to get one in the spring and do one in the fall kind of spread out, you know, but I'll have to look at my schedule. But what will happen is once you set up your event you put the event on and in order for someone to register for the event to get their email. So when you get the email that's going to start the conversation there's many things you could do. You could do automated emails and everything else but at least you want the email to start the conversation and from there you work out the rest and then the other details. And uh, then you'll be able to see email marketing on that playlist and just go ahead and go through the different types of ways that now after you get your email list, how can you maximize that list? So you can get that information at safety consultant that tv next is you could give out resources on a landing page. So on your email server, whatever server your system you use. Normally they have something called a landing page. You get set up and what that is is even if you don't have a domain and an email, excuse me, a domain and website. Using your email server, then you could put up a landing page. So you can now say you can get this free book over here and on your email client. They're going to take the person through the process of putting in their email to get the resources that you, you made for them. So that's using a landing page. That's what it's called to build your email list. Mm hmm. And the very last tip I'm going to give you guys on how to get an email and starting an email list. Ask for it, password on your social media. Just say on your linkedin or facebook something that you're using that. Hey, I am interested in keeping in touch with you. Please send me your email and I will send you resources that you could choose. Put your email on the post and you're gonna get some response. It may not be as big a response as you will if you're getting some of the other ways, but it's still a way to reach out and tell people, hey, I'm gonna offer some content specific to you. Send me an email with your industry that you're in and then I can start making sure that you get emails that you need. So that is one way of doing it. So How to get emails # one in your class rosters, number two doing a giveaway where there's a prize and during the period that you're offering this prize, you're collecting emails doing events. So it is sign up process for events. And then you're also getting some emails having a landing page from an email server system that you use. And on that landing page you could have someone that give you their email in exchange for direct resource. You're getting right there right then and you could go ahead and ask for it and linkedin and other social media is make an announcement on your page saying you want to connect with you, your list a little bit more and you might want to use the list but connect to your connections. If you're on linkedin or people who are in your group members in a more private setting. So you're gonna go ahead and say, please send me your email by replying to Sheldon at or whatever your name is.
