Just hanging out, watching three movies while eating an overpriced pizza. The way Triple Play was supposed to be run. In the four years since he’s been doing his own revisionist history now indicating that none of that would have happened, and that actually it would have followed Leia battling a resurrected Maul and his apprentice, although a lot of deas (the young female Jedi, Han and Leia’s son turning tot eh dark side) are consistent between both. This week we watched a fake trilogy, because for some reason we both really wanted to watch more stuff by the Wachowskis. That’s right, we watched Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Ascending. Why did we do this? 1:35: I was right, Matrix Resurrections was not universally beloved. 1:52: Delayed Replay is a good podcast. Aren’t all guns naked? I don’t really know what to write for this description in all honesty. I dunno. These movies were pretty funny, I guess, well the first one was anyway. After that I don’t think they were that great, and I don’t really know how to be funny about them here because it’s been so long since I’ve seen them I can’t even remember anything about the third one. Whatever. Something something Blue Oyster Cult. This week we watched those random animated Godzilla movies that were released on Netflix. I feel like they flew under the radar, a bit, but here we are, Triple Play, the biggest podcast in the world, shining a light on it. That’s right, if it blows up tomorrow you know why. It’s Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle and Godzilla: The Planet Eater 2:45: Mothra was released in 1961. I like ice cream actually. Triple Play returns from the dead (ironically) to shamble (unironically) towards a middling and mediocre conclusion followed by a spectacle no one will soon forget. Man it was so weird getting back into editing this. Felt like having to relearn a skill I had long since forgotten. Anyway, this was recorded in June 2021, hopefully nothing aged poorly. Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy

Here it is, our crowning achievement, obviously. I honestly didn’t think these movies could be that bad. Hoo boy was I surprised then when we actually watched these bad boys. And when I say bad boys I mean bad. Tom Hanks, the absolute opposite of whatever the hell Dan The Man Brown had in mind when he was writing Robert Langdon, is here to save the day. Yes, that Tom Hanks. It’s DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons and Inferno. For some reason I never started this draft beforehand. Normally I start a draft for each of these episodes to store all my sources in. And for some reason I just… didn’t for this trilogy. Men in Black

The biggest trilogy ever attempted for this podcast… for a long time. This was a serious slog. Now the real question is am I talking about the editing or the watching of these movies? I could be talking about both, it’s really late at night and I’ve been up for nearly 15 hours at this point. Which isn’t really that much of a bad thing, but I’ve been working all day. The biggest trilogy ever attempted for this podcast… for a long time. This was a serious slog. Now the real question is am I talking about the editing or the watching of these movies? I could be talking about both, it’s really late at night and I’ve been up for nearly 15 hours at this point. Which isn’t really that much of a bad thing, but I’ve been working all day. We’ve reimagined ourselves as high school students just setting out on a podcasting adventure, which is weird, because that’s actually what happened. So it’s not really a reimagining. Well this is the biggest plot twist of our lifetime. Last time we got stuck in a cave we were forced to start a podcast, and that’s how we got Zenith. Frankly we all know how that turned out. And introducing, the one, the only, TROOOLLLLLLL 2! Unsurprisingly there was very little expanded universe, well, “stuff” to do for the Troll “trilogy.” Perhaps that’s because Troll isn’t even really a trilogy, and not only that these movies flopped so badly when they came out pretty much every studio within a million years didn’t want to touch it with a twenty foot bottle of Nilbog Milk. It’s Best Worst Movie, written and directed by Michael Stephenson and premiered on March 14, 2009. Best Worst Movie

Not overwhelmed. Not underwhelmed. Just whelmed. We made an extremely poor decision on what to watch this week. Extremely poor. The Holy Grail knight might tell us that we had chosen “poorly.” I’m actually running out of things to say to describe just how bad of an idea this was to even attempt at all, and yet we still decided to go for it. Because why not? It’s the worst movie of all time and quite possibly the least connected trilogy in existence: Troll, Troll 2, and Troll 3. Allegedly. Show-notes: 1:22 Troll 3 came out in 1993 in the U.S. according to Wikipedia (and IMDB and some other sites), but apparently came out in Italy in either 1989 or 1990. Which means it possibly came out before Troll 2. 1:57 Here’s the Troll 1 making of video if you’re interested. 2:45 Cellar Dweller is another movie directed by John Carl Buechler (pronounced “beekler” – we got it wrong when we introduced him). 4:12 The Neverending Story 1 came out in 1984. 6:35 Princess Bride came out in 1987. 7:57 If any upcoming movie fits into this mid-80s fantasy mold it’s The Kid Who Would Be King. (Maybe? Aladdin made zero dollars because zero people saw it. This month Kiyan and Dylan made the decision on what trilogy to watch solely based on how long it was. In hindsight, probably not the best idea. On the other hand, we almost ended up with Lord of the Rings one time, and that’s the complete opposite end of the spectrum. So we watched Aladdin, Aladdin II: The Return of Jafar, and Aladdin 3: King of Thieves. Surprisingly we didn’t watch 4l4ddin: Four Dudes Animate a Movie for $4. Pirates of the Caribbean (the ride at Disneyland)

And it was pretty good apparently. It’s Kung Fu Panda 1,2 and 3. Will there be a fourth? The world may never know. Join Kiyan and Dylan as they set themselves right into the action and explore just how Star Wars was made. Then be thrilled as they discuss it’s two sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Back to the Future may be Dylan’s favorite movie, but Star Wars is at least second for Kiyan. While investigating J.W. Rinzler’s books on amazon (see below), Dylan discovered that you can actually still buy the radio play versions of Star Wars. If you’d like a taste of them first (and don’t want to engage in anything illicit…) you can listen to part 6 of the 13 part Episode IV adaptation on npr’s website. For a comprehensive history of the radio dramas, you can read this article on a fan site, the logbook. It would be terribly impressive if you’ve not seen at least one of the films on that list.
