KAS Podcast #103

Greetings,So this one I had crafted to record live at a BBQ here in “sunny” Florida a few weeks ago, but that didn’t happen because a storm was passing by and people panicked, and then there were three of us, so it didn’t happen!  Nevertheless, the word was out that it was going to be recorded and I was being asked about it so on a rainy day last weekend, I got her done. Continuing with the Latin flavors here... I cannot remember when the last Mojito was published but it has to be several years now. I had recorded a Brazilian affair a little while ago but don’t believe I published that, maybe I’ll put that up as a side distraction now that Rio is happening. Let me know what to do. I’ve had this building for a minute but as always, I have too many “buckets” going on and can never seem to settle on a concept. I had to force this out as the Afro/Latin rhythms seem to be coming at us left right and center so the track list kept changing. I must admit that the plan was to go hard in the middle, but that changed with some key new releases so I had to remove the Luciano and Michel Cleis that were taking the center stage/peak. You all know I love the drum, and I’ve really pushed it center stage here. As you might be able to imagine, blending such complex rhythms is difficult when both tracks come hard so I tried to focus on making the transition as interesting as possible without cluttering the sound. As you also know, I consider the transition/cross over to be a track in its own right so I particularly enjoy creating something in between that should be able to stand on its own. The cross-overs here are not too long but in some instances I was kind of forced to make them elaborate to allow the tracks to maintain their own identity and intent. I believe musicians construct their tracks deliberately so who am I to shortchange their sound eh? In some cases though, I was able to find a convenient loop half way through to chop.Anyway, onward, track list:1. Christian Vinci – Son Sol 2. I do this one primarily for 3 people; Ochun Soy, Aeleen, and Edgardo.I have promised each a mix for years now but it was challenging compiling and getting this one right, not only in the track selection, but in the spiritual order of things as well. Thanks to Ochun Soy for the guidance and encouragement. I love this one... it feeds my appetite for the drum, and soothes my soul somehow. Very happy.You will no doubt notice the adventurous cross overs. I had to in order to make this one work. But having said that, I do consider the cross over a track in its own right and I do enjoy them the most.Once The Three have downloaded I will most likely delete. Greetings all,This one was pieced together on Thanksgiving morning, while waiting for the kids to wake up... capturing my mood that morning.More importantly, and some of you may not like this, it also shows my progression to things techy. While I cannot see myself heading towards the hard tech stuff, I am appreciating that more metallic sound, especially when it's complimented by dark sultry vocals that actually mean something. Well I had some spare time yesterday, and adding a couple new finds ended up banging this one out. By no means a dancehall stomper, but an excellent rainy day companion, getting a little nasty just for the sake of it. Greetings brothers and sisters, this one should have been the first in the Producer Series, but the track listing kept changing as the my favorites kept changing, and then there was Pyrography. I’ve only put one from Pyrography on here, quite intentionally though, Ser El Santisimo, good Latin vibes, and Osunlade smashes this one. The rest will be sprinkled here and there.Really and truly, Osunlade drew me into house music. I was strictly roots reggae (I owe you a roots cd by the way, trust me its building) and then the Director introduced me to Osunlade touch on Tortured Soul’s Might Do Something Wrong, and have been hooked ever since. These are some of my favorites, not a comp of his best tracks.
