John Sellars is our special guest, describing something crazy from our city's past that he lived through--the great cobra scare of Springfield, MO, which happened during the blistering summer of 1953. The back story actually took 40 years to come to light, and there is nobody better than Sellars, the head of the Springfield History Museum, to shed some light on this memorable tale. The story is reported by Allison Green.

We weren't even born the year Columbine happened. Thirteen people killed during a normal school day. It was a tragic wake-up call, but it wasn't the last one. Fast forward to the present, to another tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida--the sounds of terror on our TV's once again--on Valentine's Day. On this edition of Bay 11, reporter Sophia Vaughn talks to two Stoneman Douglas students who took refuge in a closet with classmates, survived the shooting, and have now gone on to become activists, helping organize a march on Washington D.C. last month. Then in our second story, learn about a respite center for homeless women in Springfield, a small non-profit with a very large heart.  Reported by Anna Daniel.

The Bay 11 team worked together over the last three days to produce this in-depth look at how rumors and reality get blurred in the age of social media. Former HTVer Karl Dawson lives and teaches in Wuhan, China. But due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, he is back in the U.S., quarantined, unsure when he will return to the city of 11 million. He talks to Sophia Vaughn about how the virus has disrupted every part of life in Wuhan, and he also recalls some highlights of his Hall of Fame career on HTV. Then Anna Daniel learns about the "zero waste" lifestyle from a teenager in Illinois who explains that it takes time, and discipline, but it is worth the effort.
