Two Apple Scruffs decide to employ their dime store psychology and rank speculation to devote a podcast to defend and promote the reputation and legacy of a man with perhaps the finest reputation and legacy in the history of show business, Paul McCartney. As both a Beatles and McCartney fan, even I have to blush at the hosts’ relentless spinning on every issue in their imagined conflict (from 70s rock rags that no one took seriously?) over who did what and who was “better” in the Lennon/McCartney relationship. It’s like watching Fox News with Paul as Trump. He can do no wrong and everyone else is a blue meanie. Let it Be, ladies.

This is the freshest and most-thought provoking Beatle podcast I have ever heard. The hosts are engaging and their opinions well-informed. They constantly cite and compare sources. They painstakingly put together parts of the Beatles puzzle that has always been clouded in mystery and misinformation. Just a brilliant podcast! You may not always agree with their views but you better come with some strong reasons why.

John Lennon alternately referred to the song as “nasty,” “not that serious” and his response to “withdrawing from Paul and the Beatles and the relationship with Paul.” One would be hard-pressed to find a Beatles/Lennon song that has caused more long-term professional and emotional damage than 1971’s How Do You Sleep.   Lennon certainly dishes out the jibes in this rancorous diatribe, but can the song withstand some lampooning in return? In this episode, AKOM takes a harsh look at HDYS.
