Gable the GOAT is an original podcast documentary presented by the Wrestling Changed My Life Podcast.  The documentary explores how Dan Gable – the most popular American wrestler – created a wrestling dynasty at the University of Iowa, winning 15 NCAA team titles in 21 years; he also won an incredible 21 consecutive Big 10 crowns during that same time.  As an athlete, he was undefeated in high school through the last match of his collegiate career before losing to Larry Owings in one of the biggest upsets in wrestling history. J Robinson is a wrestling icon. His career got started in San Diego where he won the California CIF. He then attended Oklahoma State, was an Army ranger, went to Vietnam and was a 1972 Olympian on the Greco team. Shortly after the Olympics, J moved to Iowa City and took an assistant coaching job. He’d spend the next 12 seasons at Iowa, most of which working for legendary coach Dan Gable, and helped the Hawks win 9 national titles.  After taking a 2 year break from college wrestling, J became the head coach at Minnesota and created a wrestling dynasty by winning 3 NCAA titles and 6 Big 10 titles. J also owns the J Rob Intensive Wrestling Camps businesses and has spent 40+ years working with high schoolers during the summer.  Enjoy this one folks!

Brent Metcalf is entering his second season as a full-time assistant coach on Iowa State’s wrestling staff. It is his third season overall with the Cyclones after serving as the volunteer assistant for the 2017-18 season. Metcalf served as the National Freestyle Developmental Coach prior to his arrival in Ames. As a senior-level athlete, Metcalf was a staple in the United States’ lineup from 2010-2016. He was a part of four U.S. Freestyle World Teams (2010, 2013, 2014, 2015).  Metcalf qualified for the U.S. Freestyle National Team for six straight years from 2010-16, winning U.S. Open titles in 2014 and 2015. He was also a member of the 2006 Junior World Team. Metcalf is one of the most decorated wrestlers in Iowa wrestling history. He won two NCAA titles (2008, 2010) and was three-time NCAA finalist (2008-10) in his three seasons wrestling for the Hawkeyes.A native of Davison, Mich., Metcalf won the 2008 Dan Hodge trophy, given annually to the nation’s best collegiate wrestler, and helped the Hawkeyes to three NCAA team titles (2008, 2009, 2010).

Mark Ironside is one of the great college wrestlers of all time. He's a Hodge Trophy winner, 2x NCAA champ and 4x Big 10 champ. He was also a member of 4 NCAA championship teams. After wrestling Mark founded Ironside Apparel &amp; Promotion, a custom merchandise manufacturer based in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Head coach Chris Bono was hired as the 16th head coach in UW history on March 24, 2018.Bono spent the last six seasons prior to being hired at Wisconsin as the head coach at South Dakota State, establishing the Jackrabbits as a national contender and a powerhouse in the Big 12, coaching three conference champions in the program's three years in the league.The Jackrabbits had their best season in the final year under Bono. Two-time All-American Seth Gross won the program's first national title at 133 pounds while the team placed 12th in the NCAA tournament, the highest finish of any Big 12 team.A four-time NCAA qualifier and three-time All-American for Iowa State, Bono ranks fifth in ISU history with 130 career wins and was the 150-pound NCAA champion as a junior. He went on to coach as an assistant at his alma mater for nine years and was named the National Wrestling Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year in 2002.In national and international competition, Bono is a two-time United States National Champion, took first at the World Cup in both 2002 and 2003 and is a three-time World Team member.

Chris Perry is an assistant coach at Oklahoma State University During his time in the coaching ranks at Oklahoma State, Perry helped guide Daton Fix to a bronze-medal finish at 2018 Junior Worlds, oversaw a pair of national championships from 141-pounder Dean Heil in 2016 and 2017 and Alex Dieringer’s third NCAA Championship in 2016 at 165 pounds.In 2017, Perry helped guide Heil to his title, while also seeing eight total Cowboys bring home All-America honors to tie a school record and finish third at the NCAA Championships. The 2017 season also saw eight Cowboys earn Big 12 individual titles as the Pokes en route to a team title.In his first season, he saw Alex Dieringer earn his third NCAA individual title, Dean Heil win his first national championship and four other Cowboys earn All-America status. He had a key role in coaching seven Pokes to Big 12 titles and a team championship. In 2013 and 2014, Perry, a native of Stillwater, Okla., won back-to-back NCAA titles at 174 pounds under the direction of John Smith.  Perry produced a dominant 122-11 career record with 59 bonus-point wins. He was a four-time Big 12 champion, the 2014 Big 12 Championship’s Outstanding Wrestler and a three-time All-American.

After 15 years of addiction, hopelessness and seven years in jail Richard Jensen got clean and sober and went on a quest to become a wrestling national champion.Rich had goals of standing at the top of the podium, something that he had dreamed of his whole life. Staying sober was not enough, he wanted to beat all odds and become the best version of himself that he could. He wanted to change his life by becoming a better person, someone he could be proud of.Over a 10 year period of competing he became a five time All American.  In 2015, he competed at the World Wrestling Championships in Athens, Greece and in 2016, he finally reached his goal of becoming a National Champion.He has been clean and sober for over 14 years and travels the nation sharing his story to inspire others to not go down the path of destruction that he went down.  His story was showcased on ESPN and won an Emmy Award in 2009.Today he talks in depth about the dangers of addiction and uses his personal story to encourage people to make positive choices by creating a vision, making attainable goals and staying on course.  His message is that everyone can Be a Champion in Life!

Troy Steiner is the head coach at Fresno State, and spent 10 years at Oregon State from 2006-16, including the last four in the role of associate head coach.Steiner, a native of Bismarck, N.D. and graduate of Bismarck Century High School, went on to star as a wrestler at Iowa alongside with his brother, Terry, who was a three-time All-American with the Hawkeyes (1991-93) and 1993 NCAA Division I National Champion (150-pound weight class). Both Steiner brothers were inducted into the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa on June 9, 2013.In post-collegiate competition, Steiner was a nine-time U.S. National Team member, winning the 1992 World Cup and the 1996 Pan-American Games titles. He placed third at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 1992 and 1996, and fifth in 2000.
