Investigations Aren't Just For Crimes

We are back at it today, speaking with Chris Tenaglia of Valiant Group America, as he brings his unique experience of the construction side of the cannabis industry to light. Valiant is a vertically integrated team, meaning they have professionals from all aspects of the construction industry, in-house. This eases confusion throughout the entire process, and makes for great communication throughout the company and for the client. Chris, the chief operating officer of Valiant, speaks with us today about his experiences at Valiant and calls out the bullshit he’s had to deal with throughout his time in the industry.  3 Lessons Learned:  The expense differences and effects of growing cannabis in different climates, specifically the NorthEast. With drastic changes in humidity and temperature throughout the year in the east, compared to the dry, sunny climate in the west, east coast facilities usually have to double up on most of their supplies and equipment. Massachusetts has one of the highest percentages of testing regulations for mold in the cannabis industry. This is due to the area’s high humidity. Vet whoever you are hiring in this industry - especially as a consultant. Let's Talk Terpenes - And Get a Little Controversial

Continuing the conversation from Part 1, my good friend and experienced advocate, Brad Slaughter of Nature’s Secret Holdings, joins us once again to dive into the reality of what will follow post-legalization. What will regulations look like in the future, compared to the past? Will we learn from our mistakes to create a better system? Our past with cannabis is complicated and repetitive. With progress and advocacy for cannabis sparking up in the 1970’s, our fight for the plant started long before that. General misinformation and a lack of understanding surrounding cannabis has troubled its image throughout time and remains to do so to this day. Education is needed to prepare us for legalization. Taxation on legal cannabis drops down to the end user, pushing consumers towards the illicit market because of the affordability. The perfect example is California, where the black market is 3x the size of the legal market. The state (like in California) wouldn’t have to enforce your regulations with law enforcement if 2/3 of the state didn’t opt out of commercial cannabis sales. The tax money from that 1/3 of the state will not cover enforcement costs. Today, with recreational states like California failing to keep their regulatory standards consistent and stable, companies in the industry stand to loose thousands of dollars in an attempt to be compliant. So, what do we expect legalization on a national level to be like? Certainly not any better. Everybody seems to want legalization on a federal level. It’s a hot topic in the industry, especially with a new democratic president and the aftermath of COVID-19 slowly starting to show it’s face. But what are the impending consequences of legalization? Who will be the ones most drastically effected? Will it effect cannabis culture and the people within it? Every type of battle an industry can face has occurred in the cannabis industry. From insane taxes and regulations, to rampant corruption and shady business practices. However, NOTHING compares to the challenges Covid 19 poses.  The publicly traded cannabis industry ended 2019 with a capital crash. Now, thanks to Covid-19, cannabis has entered into yet another unknown territory. Early investors and small business owners are now finding themselves with very few options, leaving all of us to wonder - who will survive, who will sell out, and who will close permanently? Covid-19 and the Cannabis Industry

Too many people are taken advantage of in the cannabis industry. The more driven they are by compassion, the easier they are to target. Why? Because you don’t hear about it in the news. You don’t hear about it from the victims of such circumstances, be it pride, or a feeling of humiliation/embarrassment, or a lack of substantial proof. All people hear about is the millions made in tax revenue, the billions of dollars the industry is valued at, etc.  Jean Everson isn’t unique in her circumstances, but what makes her unique is twofold. First, she had the smarts to keep records of everything and took this company court - and WON. Secondly, despite winning the settlement and receiving nothing, she wants you to know her story so that you don’t find yourself in the same position. It truly seems like no one escapes this industry unscathed, but there is hope! Rule #1: Always Get Everything in Writing!

What started out as a booming industry where there seemed to be no ceiling to the amount of money being poured into, and spent by Canadian cannabis companies, ended with a swift dose of reality that growth for the sake of growth, might not have been the best path forward! Millions of Dollars Lost - Time for Change

With the amount of big money flowing into the cannabis industry, inclusion is becoming a larger topic for those advocates and the people whose livelihoods were made from this plant long before it was “safe” to operate. It is becoming clearer that indeed, the playing field is NOT EVEN. Many in the industry are finding that despite having been in the industry for years, even decades, they are losing jobs to those with formal degrees and coming from conventional industries. Inclusion goes beyond social equity, where the focus is righting the wrongs of the drug war and giving those that served time for doing what former politicians and police officers are now profiting off of. Until I did this interview, I was afraid of being pulled over by the police. I used to joke that I would fail a sobriety test even if I was sober because cops scare me that much. Admittedly, when I was young, I would wear the smell of a fresh smoked bowl with pride. Eyes half closed, mouth dry and funny as hell, my hairdresser told me she'd catch a buzz while washing my hair, I was so saturated in cannabis. Although times have changed and I no longer value smelling and looking like a stoner(did I mention cannabis DUI's became a thing this year?), I was still afraid of being pulled over by the cops lest I be tired or my eyes were dry thereby making me look high when I'm not. At least I WAS afraid, but not any longer. I discovered the Pot Brothers at Law on social media. Some Serious BS of the Week

Epidolex CBD - Friend or Foe? You Decide. Written By  Mike Robinson ~ Cannabis Heals Cancer Survivor ~ International Cannabinoid Cancer Research Institutes/Domestic Animal Research Ctr. Co-Founder/Director We all knew the pharmaceutical industry would step into the world of Medicinal Cannabis and take over with a bang, but we did not expect it to happen with a whirlwind of professionals voicing concerns globally. Questions are looming about dosing, increased seizures in patients, a death in the trials to seizures, and even other epilepsy drugs that combined with this one can be life-threatening. Even the likes of Professor Raphael Mechoulam, the Israeli organic chemist and professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel who first isolated and identified THC in the 1960's and discovered the Endocannabinoid System 3 decades later, created panels and meeting from across the Atlantic to here in California this coming week, and will address this at the huge CannX conference he hosts every year in his country. Dr. David Bearman of the American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine has been invited to give his input there. Liz Minda, cannabis advocate and nurse, the mother of Jadyn with Severe Intractable Epilepsy stated, "Epidiolex was the last pharmaceutical we tried and it failed for seizure cessation. Full spectrum cannabis oil stopped seizures and gave her a brighter cognitive and physical ability every day. The best Leap of Faith I have ever taken. Currently, for the last 12 months Jadyn is on CBD only, not Epidiolex!" I was part of her compassion crew that helped wean Jadyn from GW's CBD to the plant - and it's nowhere near the same. It seems that many are quite upset at the fact that Pharmaceutical CBD will be compared to Hemp derived and Cannabis Flower derived CBD products that do not cause the problems nor carry side effect warnings such as GW Pharmaceuticals has been forced to put on it's product by the F.D.A., take a look - you decide. Would you take this drug as a replacement for pharmaceuticals? Would you consider it a 'good representation' of the 'dangers' of Cannabis products? How many of us want these type of warnings blasted out on TV advertisements for the drug creating a new "Reefer Madness 2019" in which people that are considering cannabis as medicine will then change their mind. Approval of a drug, or a way to scare consumers away? WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS (From FDA Website) Hepatocellular Injury: EPIDIOLEX can cause transaminase elevations. (LIVER DAMAGE) Concomitant use of valproate and higher doses of EPIDIOLEX increase the risk of transaminase elevations. See Full Prescribing Information for serum transaminase and bilirubin monitoring recommendations. (5.1)  Somnolence and Sedation: Monitor for somnolence and sedation and advise patients not to drive or operate machinery until they have gained sufficient experience on EPIDIOLEX. (5.2) Suicidal Behavior and Ideation: Monitor patients for suicidal behavior and thoughts. (5.3) Hypersenstivity Reactions: Advise patients to seek immediate medical care.(5.4) Withdrawal of Antiepileptic Drugs: EPIDIOLEX should be gradually withdrawn to minimize the risk of increased seizure frequency and status epilepticus. LET ME INTERRUPT: Status epilepticus (which kills nearly 50,000 people per year, Olympian "FloJo" died of seizures/status in her sleep) is caused by discontinuing a cannabis product? Since when does stopping a cannabis created product CAUSE the problem you're treating? Since when is CBD addictive? Never... but when does a pharmaceutical cause us problems? When are they addictive? Daily. (5.5) ADVERSE REACTIONS: The most common adverse reactions (10% or more for EPIDIOLEX and greater than placebo) are: somnolence; decreased appetite; diarrhea; transaminase elevations; fatigue, malaise, and asthenia; rash; insomnia, sleep disorder, and poor quality sleep; and infections. (6.1). (ALL of the above will be 'disclaimed' in Television and print advertisements, and quickly the world will liken CBD itself to Big Pharma's version) USE IN SPECIFIC POPULATIONS: Pregnancy: Based on animal data, may cause fetal harm. I'm not sure how you're deciding on this one but for me this is quite obvious. It's not CBD that does these things to people, it's pharmaceuticals. It's not the plant that would ever cause these problems - it's pharmaceuticals. Leave it to that industry to dirty the name of a plant that saves and changes lives daily. We as a movement to legalize nature should not step back and watch, once again, as Big Pharma creates a cannabis medicine and it's scheduled way down the list like Marinol (Synthetic THC) which has been a Schedule 3 since 1985. Epidolex proposal is at Schedule 4.   How possibly can our country's leadership sleep at night with the plant these drugs came from still schedule 1 while our citizens fight death defying illness and fight to gain access to a plant to become "Illegally Healed"?
