I have been a student of contemplative spirituality and practices for several years.  This podcast is a great source of information, and provides quality content. I love the new meditation and contemplative methods they provide. The only thing keeping it from a 5 Star is the sound quality on the earlier episodes although that has gotten better. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to go deeper with God!

Marc and Clint discuss an article by Ilia Delio that responds and (intelligently) critiques the theology of Richard Rohr.  But the discussion goes on, to a host of contemporary topics:1. Is Richard Rohr giving Christianity more relevance for posterity?  Is his Integral reframing of orthodoxy helpful or hurtful? Does it matter?2. Why are so many becoming disillusioned with Evangelical Christianity? Moreover, what is the appeal to progressive Christians of preachers who now simply bash conservatives as their entire platform?  3. How come some traditionalists become disillusioned in their early twenties, some go through a later adolescent individuation in their thirties, while still others seem to maintain traditional theologies even if they loosen up in their personal lives?4. Why the preoccupation with the person of Jesus? Is this simply a pure faith or is there a deep fear of hell behind salvation philosophies? Should we be afraid of hell? Dr. Seth Farber is a revolutionary psychologist who has appeared on Oprah, Geraldo, Coast to Coast, and Alex Jones. In the spirit of Anton Boisen (the founder of pastoral psychology) and RD Laing (the pioneering psychiatrist), Farber's book, The Gift of Spiritual Madness maintains, as Joseph Campbell did, that mystics and schizophrenics swim in the same area of consciousness. The difference is that the mystic is swimming and the schizophrenic is drowning. A friend and colleague of many 60s hippie-era icons, our conversation moves accordingly, jumping and tossing allusions and laughter. Author of Toxic Psychiatry, a book that exposed the financial motives of drug companies giving money to the APA and the corruption that drove the medicalization of the psychology field. APA: The American Psychological Association. Paul Smith, author of Integral Christianity and Is Your God Big Enough? Close Enough? You Enough? talks with Clint about the dimensions of the Christian contemplative path, as understood and aided by an Integral perspective of state-stages and points of view. Rev Paul has contributed valuable insight that is essential for the future of Christian mysticism, incorporating much of the work of Ken Wilber, along with his own experiences of higher states of consciousness, to demonstrate that, yes, the Christian tradition has always allowed room for what Integral theory calls the causal, witnessing, and non-dual states. Some key take-aways for us were:-Often spiritual seekers who have pursued meditation into higher states in a tradition other than their own will experience stress until they make peace with the tradition in which they were raised. This is especially important for Westerners born and raised Christian who since abandoned Christianity for another path, yet continue to experience an unresolved anxiety.-Biblical references to "Spirit" translate best to what we would call "consciousness," allowing this usage of the word to account for what Buddhists might call "Emptiness" or "Oneness," and other traditions might call something else. There is no reason to think that you HAVE to stop following Christian tradition once you experience higher states.-Often people who practice centering prayer and contemplative spirituality have stopped praying altogether.
