Since 1973, the Southern Oral History Program has worked to preserve the voices of the southern past. We have collected 6,000 interviews with people from all walks of life—from mill workers to civil rights leaders to future presidents of the United States. Made available through UNC’s renowned Southern Historical Collection online, these interviews capture the vivid personalities, poignant personal stories, and behind-the-scenes decision-making that bring history to life.

This podcast addresses contemporary issues in oral history and asks questions about form, method, and politics. Each episode addresses a new subject with a range of perspectives from interviewers, interviewees, and the show&#39;s hosts. Most importantly, this podcast gives oral history a chance to speak for itself. It is sad to think how interviews sit in physical storage or cyberspace purgatory, longing for an ear to hear them. The SOHP crew are unearthing gems in the archives that deserve to be heard and every episode I am excited to hear new and exciting stories.
