Most of the students fled their homes.Laura reunited with her students and started teaching them playwriting.On May 1st, she started teaching a second playwriting class that had been advertised on a aTelegram channel for art programs for Ukrainian Youth. It was supposed to last four weeks.Most of those students were still in Ukraine, but some had fled.The May class went so well, they decided to keep going, so on June 1st, the two classes cametogether and formed Young Playwrights Ukraine.On July 24th, six months after the war started, they had a reading of 18 short works withprofessional actors on Zoom for an audience. The cast included noted actors David Morse,Cara Buono, Ann Dowd, Kevin Corrigan, Misha Brooks, Bridgette Lundy-Paine, Ivanna Sakhno,Stefanie Lavie Owens, Oona Laurence and others.The plays were subsequently produced by Orion Theater in Stockholm Sweden, directed byLars Rudolfsson, who had been in the audience on July 24th. The plays opened on March 20th,2023, to outstanding reviews and ran for 30 performances. Laura and ten of the playwrights metin person for the first time in Sweden for the opening night.The collection is soon to be published by Smith&amp;KrausYoung Playwrights Ukraine continues to meet every Saturday and Sunday to write. Betsy Wolfe

Betsy Wolfe has established herself as one of the most versatile and keenly intelligent Broadway performers of her generation. She recently starred as Jenna Hunterson, the title role in the Tony nominated musical Waitress. Prior to that, she played Cordelia, one of the one of the lovable “lesbians from next door,” in the Broadway revival of Falsettos directed by James Lapine, which recently aired on PBS. She is perhaps best known for her critically acclaimed performance as Cathy in the off-Broadway revival of The Last Five Years. In TV, she was most recently seen in a guest star role on season 2 of the CBS series INSTINCT. She also just wrapped the indie feature FIRST ONE IN with Georgia King.  Originally from California, Betsy received her BFA in musical theatre from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. At age twenty—prior to graduation and prior being able to legally drink or get a British pilot’s license—she made her Carnegie Hall debut with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra under Maestro Erich Kunzel. After receiving her BFA, Betsy quickly starred in the San Francisco and Boston companies of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Soon after, she made her Broadway debut in the revival of 110 in the Shade. Tony Award winner Kelli O'Hara is one of Broadway’s most celebrated leading ladies. Born and raised in Oklahoma, Kelli spent most of her childhood on her family’s cattle farm. A serendipitous move to another town while in high school offered Kelli a new beginning, one in which she immersed herself in the arts. She never looked back. An interest in opera began her lifelong relationship with vocal teacher Florence Birdwell.  (Ms. Birdwell had taught another actress from Oklahoma, Kristin Chenoweth. Indeed it was Kristin Chenoweth who introduced Kelli to her first agent in New York City.) Small parts led to bigger ones; eventually a leading role in the national tour of "Jekyll and Hyde" followed. Kelli then made her Broadway debut as a replacement in the musical horror-drama loosely based on the novella by Robert Louis Stevenson.  In her conversation with Ilana, Kelli discusses how there were times when she thought perhaps she had landed the role that would be her big break, but it was not to be.
