We shot this podcast back in November (some elements are from August). Despite the late upload, we were excited to share this one!Cookie cutters aren't new to 3d printing, but we'd never designed one before. While designing a custom cookie cutter for Impact Dakota, Eric made an emoji cutter just for fun.With cleanliness in mind, we made a high temp SLA cookie cutter as well to see if we could make it sanitary without melting it. We didn't put it in the dishwasher, but we did boil it. Despite slight warping which was probably avoidable, it boiled just fine! Last month, Eric and some of the F3DP team went to a trade show called Medical Design &amp; Manufacturing (MD&amp;M) in Minneapolis. Desktop Metal, Stratasys and 3D Systems were all well represented. Our first and favorite booth was RP America. They are resellers of UnionTech, Rize and Desktop Metal. They also work with an electroplating company called RePliForm. We saw another booth called Productivity. They are a machine tool supplier which had Desktop Metal, Stratasys and a FOBA laser on display. A few FaroArms were also on display. A few months ago, 3D Hubs introduced the "Express Checkout." It was a way to streamline the checkout process for newer, less experienced users. Although it may have been a great fit for some, advanced users and the hubs themselves were not pleased. 50 hubs were chosen by 3D Hubs to do the bulk of these orders and would be chosen automatically. Due to an error in the hub auto-selection, Fargo 3D Printing ended up getting a deluge of orders. We just couldn't keep up. Although the Express Checkout has since been updated, it has alienated a large amount of smaller hubs. We will continue using 3D Hubs in the future but are currently not focusing on custom 3D printing. F3DPS Episode 34 - 3Dom USA & Quality Filament

We have a special guest on the show this week! Our internal engineer, Zach Triplett, sits in and talks about 3Dom USA's new product: Glass Filled PLA. He defines strength, toughness and flexibility and how they relate to 3D printing.More info on 3Dom's website.Simplify3D is a slicer that we highly recommend. Although it's not free like most slicers, it has a lot of features that we feel justify the $150 price tag. John discovered a new feature recently about separating connected surfaces without using programs such as Mesh Mixer.We will be putting together a short video tutorial, but Simplify3D has one that covers the basics.We talked about Glass Filled PLA, but extruder manufacturer MICRON 3DP is printing with actual glass! With the help of a blowtorch, they are reaching temperatures of 850° C and 1640° C for borosilicate glass.Ouch!Finally, Jake talks about a 3D printer that debuted earlier this year and just started accepting orders. A while ago, we had a fan duct melt on one of our Replicator 2's. We (Eric) recently printed a replacement, but in PLA. It worked fine for a few days, but ended up causing quite a mess.Here are a couple of prints we tried.We've talked about prosthetic devices before, but e-Nable recently put out a challenge for the community to print 1000 hands by the end of October. We get a lot of questions as to why 3D printers aren't printing properly, so we went over a few of the most common causes that we've encountered.In season one, we talked about "heat creep." Heat moves up the thermal barrier tube and can cause filament to expand. When it cools again, the filament can get stuck and become difficult to remove.The orientation of cooling fans and heat sinks may not seem like a huge issue, but incorrectly install components can cause print failure.Low quality/out of spec filament can contain foreign particles that clog the nozzle.
