Recent years have seen Millennials blamed for just about everything, from the changing norms around working hours, to marriage and car ownership, and for killing things like napkins, golf, and department stores.   And while it's easy to lay the blame at the feet of a new generation that is disrupting the age-old way of doing things, this generational conflict has a tradition that spans the ages. The practice of ethics seems to have been forgotten – or perhaps ignored – as technology has improved. At every turn, we seem to find examples where someone realized they could do something without stopping to ask if they should.   Further, the long-lasting and wide-ranging impact of technology is not fully understood. We're only beginning to see the dangers that lie ahead. We live in amazing times. We're so much more advanced than we were even a decade and a half ago. So why should we bother looking at anything that happened before? Predictions require data. The same could be said for reputation, whether it's your personal reputation or the reputation of your company. What do we need to do to ensure our reputation isn't tarnished? At the turn of the last century, a well-heeled woman who wanted to retain her socialite status had to think twice before she asked for a divorce. One in particular endured a very public spectacle, but emerged not only with her reputation in tact, but in a position to advise others. Reputation Is Everything

The Full Monty is 5 minutes of thought-provoking commentary on business, leadership, ethics, integrity, and common sense. Scott is like the Paul Harvey of business podcasts.

I was in a funk... I had just had back-to-back meetings at my local SBDC Entrepreneur Center. The first meeting went great! The second was a train wreck that went off the rails almost immediately. I didn&#39;t feel listened to as I had been in the first meeting and the guy was too busy making snap-judgments and pigeonholing my vision to actually hear what I was saying. 

I thought to myself: if this is what it is to pitch - they can keep it! Then on cue I binge-listened to The Full Monty. Not only was Scott able to bring me out of my stupor, but also gave me several new lens through which to view my encounter. I was able to glean instructive lessons in retrospect that eluded me the first time. 

Scott never fails to deliver perspective. If you&#39;re looking for a pleasurable paradigm shift in as few as ten minutes, I recommend The Full Monty enthusiastically!

You likely heard about the United Airlines leggings issue that popped up earlier this week. While it was unfortunate for the brand, especially given its reputation issues, it was entirely avoidable. There are a variety of issues that sprung forth from the incident that tell us a great deal about ourselves as a society. Lawmakers pass bills to ensure that companies don't overstep the boundaries of decency, and try to protect the citizenry. But it doesn't always take legal action to ensure we do the right things. It's necessary to have an understanding of corporate social responsibility and its impact beyond the surface level of marketing, communications and reputation management. Which means making ethical decisions rather than legal decisions in the face of challenges. In this episode, we go a little further, diving into two key human conditions: fear and greed. In doing so, we pick apart the motivating factors behind using these as emotional drivers in marketing. Erik Deckers contributed to this essay, adapting a post from his site ProBlogService.com.
