Background Bridge Crew. Every incarnation of Star Trek portrays the bridge crew and senior staff as a cohesive unit. One could say they are a family. We also get to learn a great deal about not only the captain and first officer, but also those who sit at the conn, communications, ops, and security stations. Star Trek: Discovery, however, is different. Famed for being the first Star Trek series whose main character is not the captain, it doesn’t really develop the bridge crew as other series have done. Background Bridge Crew. Every incarnation of Star Trek portrays the bridge crew and senior staff as a cohesive unit. One could say they are a family. He finds himself in a Klingon jail with a Starfleet prisoner of war named Tyler Ash and the infamous Harcourt Fenton Mudd. Meanwhile, back on Discovery, Saru butts heads with Burnham over the tardigrade, and Stamets makes a sacrifice which places him in a reflective situation. Despite Yourself.  After eight weeks of speculation, the answers are finally here! Trapped in an unknown region of space, the USS Discovery is attacked by a Vulcan ship. The crew soon learns they have jumped to a parallel universe in which the Federation has been replaced by a sinister organization known as the Terran Empire. Meanwhile, in sickbay, Stamets is recovering from the effects of his last spore jump and Ash Tyler is concerned that the Klingons may have done something more to him than physical torture.
