Anna wishes she was better at drawing things that look exactly like the thing they are meant to be.

Dancing is something that Sally wishes she was better at. Coordination is not exactly her strong point now as an adult.

Anna has tried pottery and it wasn’t for her. Elise Blaha Cripe (who was on the show back in Episode 50) went through a pottery phase and made it look totally doable.

Sally’s nemesis is crochet. This is the daisy pattern blanket that Sally wants to be able to make, but there is a big gap between her level of skill and the skill needed to make this blanket!

I have been enjoying listening to this podcast while I work on my own 100 day project. It has been a pleasure listening to other creatives perspectives. I really enjoy the format and flow of the podcast. Sally asks great questions and interacts wonderfully with her guests. The length is awesome too. As I work I know after each one I should get up and stretch! Highly recommend.

Michelle Poler

Michelle Poler is a speaker, YouTuber and fear facer. (I'm currently obsessed with her channel - check it out - which she uses to share her 100 days without fear, her letters to her younger self and many other amazing videos.)

Sally is excited about being involved in the Skillshare VIP Class where she is getting help, feedback and rewards (yes, there are prizes!) to make her first Skillshare Class.

Michelle is excited to be working with her agent to put together a book proposal and to be able to share what she has learned in a book about her journey.

It was super interesting to hear how Michelle got started with her fears work. She considered: What would be your perfect life ten years from now? And what is one obstacle that could crush your dreams? Her 100 day project this year is called 'Courage is ...'

Michelle's advice is: Explore. Give yourself time to play. Find things that you like an imitate them. Imitate new styles and make them your own.

I have wanted to record this episode ever since I finished Manoush Zomorodi's Bored and Brilliant: How Spacing Out Can Unlock Your Most Productive and Creative Self. I loved it so much that I'm giving away a copy of it to one of our newsletter subscribers.
In summary: Back in 2015, Note to Self podcast host Manoush wondered if being connected to technology with a constant stream of entertainment and information was making our lives better or worse. She noticed that we're never bored anymore and wondered what is that lack of boredom doing to us?
I had heard about this book a while ago, but had to wait until the Library had it available. I read it at the beginning of Feb and found that it really aligned with my main goal for 2018 - to get off my phone and technology and be okay with being bored (with the aim of then being more creative). I'm still yet to hear of someone lying on their death bed who wished they spent more of their life on Instagram.
Anyway, I've been working towards this goal since January 1 this year and these are some of the things that I have found have helped me to make some progress in this area:
Reading Bored and Brilliant and implementing some of the strategies, including observing my behaviour, devices away when in transit, deleting the app that sucks most of your time and observing something else. Putting my most tempting apps in harder to reach places. My home screen is now not home to any social media, photo editing apps, etc. They are on another screen and in folders so they are more inconvenient to get to.Try signing out of your favourite time wasting apps. It is super annoying to have to sign back in every time and this is a good way to break a mindless habit.Read this article: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/13/well/phone-cellphone-addiction-time.html It has some great ways to break up with your phone.
Try the Moment App. I found it super eye opening to learn how much time was really spent staring at my phone.
Try the Flipd App. It blocks you from accessing certain features on your phone for preset periods of time. (I'm trying it today for the first time, but I've been impressed by it thus dar.)
Engage the strategy of 'monitoring' as suggested by Gretchen Rubin. I've been tracking my progress towards my goal in my 'commonplace' book. (Here is Brandi Kincaid's commonplace book which is just too beautiful.) . I've also got my 'Get "Stuff" Done' notebook - pictured underneath - which is a great way of tracking progress.

Elise's advice: Pick something that you really love and that you are really excited about. Come up with rules, but still allow yourself some flexibility.  It gets hard, that's the point. You just need to keep doing it, even when it is no longer fun.  Come up with a big idea of what it could be in the future.

Kristin started off the show by sharing so many amazing things on the creative soapbox, including:  Taking Skillshare classes Her love for her iPad Pro, iPencil and the Procreate app Podcasts she has been enjoying, like Creative Pep Talk and Found Sally then got distracted by the topic of podcasts and decided to talk about Mystery Show (including the case of the belt buckle!) and The Bestseller Experiment instead of her planned soapbox share. (Stay tuned for that one at a later date!)  Kristin's advice for completing the project: Pick a project that doesn't take too long each day. Make it quick and manageable, then just keep going. You have 100 days to make it better. Sally's soapbox choice is the US Social Security Baby Name website. She was introduced to it through this post on Cup of Jo and she has had to much playing around with it this week.

Miriam's advice: Try to take the very best of the world. Cherish the connections that you make with others and give back as much as you can. Do your thing. Explore and try to be honest with yourself. If you love something, just keep doing it. Don't worry too much about what other people think. Keep going.

Kristl's advice: Just keep going as long as it lights you up. Quitting isn't a terrible thing, but there is a difference between things getting hard and it being the wrong project for you. Learn to recognise this.
