A History of the New Perspective on Paul

As someone who has recently discovered the New Perspective I have been looking everywhere for a good, thorough critique so I can get the best of both sides of the discussion.  While Carson does much better than MacArthur or Piper in this matter, I think he missed a lot of the best arguments on the New Perspective side.

I agree with Carson that we should read Luther and Calvin to make sure we aren’t swayed by people attacking arguments that the original authors didn’t make;  It should also be said that anyone looking at the New Perspective should read Tom Wright because Carson’s depiction of his arguments were weak compared to his actual positions.

Disappointing

Carson gives an honest critic of the new perspective. It was so refreshing to hear a Biblical approach to the dangers in the new approach. In the first two lectures Carson gives the history and foundation of the new perspective, and then in the final lecture he takes the time to exegete parts of Romans 3 that shows the implications the new perspective has on the gospel. I&#39;m a 23 year old Bible college student, and this was one of the most helpful lectures I have heard on this subject. Many of my peers love the sound of the new perspective, but it is important to know that the new perspective is not dealing with peripheral doctrines of our faith, but the very core of what we believe.
