Star Wars: The Last Jedi came out and Karen really enjoyed it!  It was…a bit long, but still good! Episode 118: Catching Up, Part 1

Karen, meanwhile, has ditched all the projects she was working on because she’d hit the doldrums with them.  So what helps with knitting ruts?  Casting on some Monkey socks, of course!  That doesn’t mean she isn’t working on something overly ambitious, as, um, she kind of decided to sew a costume for FanExpo liiike…ten days beforehand?  She also went on the TTC Knitalong since the last recording, which was awesome!  And exhausting, but also awesome!  Also, Karen will be at Rhinebeck this year!  Find her and give her hugs! In Geek Squee, Maggie’s started watching a Geek &amp; Sundry series about painting miniatures: Painters’ Guild!  Of course it doesn’t hurt that Matt Mercer was the first guest.  We’ve also found twitter user mazzmatazz who is crocheting amigurumi of the ENTIRE D&amp;D Monster Manual, as well as the perfect instructions for D&amp;D nerds to leave for those looking after their cats when they’re away, namely, in the form of a campaign.  In case you needed a rabbit hole to dive down, the British Library has digitized the entirety of Leonardo DaVinci’s sketchbook.  SO. AWESOME.  Also awesome?  OMG THE THIRTEENTH DOCTOR IS A WOMAN. WE ARE SO EXCITED.  Less exciting is James Cameron thinking we need his opinions about Wonder Woman.  Let’s just look at this adorable photoshoot of kids dressed as the Justice League, okay?  And there was also a solar eclipse.  Man, that feels like a long time ago. In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, Karen has another newbie game review, this time of CRPG “Pillars of Eternity” which is SUPER ADDICTIVE.  And may feature some voices familiar to Critical Role fans. ;)  She’s also started doing some streaming of video games, which you can find on our YouTube channel!  You can find our Guide to Rhinebeck  periscope video from last year on our channel as well.  We’re also dying to get the Critical Role comic and art book.  BTW, the Japanese poster for Wonder Woman?  NEED A POSTER OF THAT, HELLO.  Also, it’s getting colder, so we have the Resist hat, to go with your resistance mittens from a few months ago.  There’s also a new store in Toronto called the Curiosa Society which is Harry. Potter.  Themed.  We need to make a road trip!  And finally, a new member of our knitting group has a podcast on YouTube called Spinning Woolly Yarns, so go check it out! In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, Karen has another newbie game review, this time of CRPG “Pillars of Eternity” which is SUPER ADDICTIVE.  And may feature some voices familiar to Critical Role fans. ;)  She’s also started doing some streaming of video games, which you can find <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDodJnPjlpbUP7BAz52WOqg" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">on our YouTube channel</a>!  You can find our Guide to Rhinebeck  periscope video from last year on our channel as well.  We’re also dying to get the Critical Role comic and art book.  BTW, the Japanese poster for Wonder Woman?  NEED A POSTER OF THAT, HELLO.  Also, it’s getting colder, so we have the Resist hat, to go with your resistance mittens from a few months ago.  There’s also a new store in Toronto called the Curiosa Society which is Harry. Potter.  Themed.  We need to make a road trip!  And finally, a new member of our knitting group has a podcast on YouTube called Spinning Woolly Yarns, so go check it out! Episode 117: Just the Worst

SPOILER ALERT!  Spoilers for Wonder Woman from 33:50 to 52:30! So much celebrating.  So tired. In Adventures in Knitting, Maggie is still working on the Brownstone sweater for AdminMonkey and will be working on it for the foreseeable future.  So as not to lose her mind, she’s also working on Kai-Mei socks and she’s FINALLY WEAVING!    Karen, meanwhile, is still working on the Locke Street cardigan and will be also for the foreseeable future, though she did feel compelled to cast on socks in Cozy Knitter’s “Come TOgether” colourway for a Blue Jays game.    She’s also been swatching a couple things but is resisting looking for patterns because she really needs to work on the sweater. Also, um, Karen finally has a full-time job?  Which means she has a very predictable schedule, and can sign up for things like the TTC Knitalong! In Geek Squee, EEEEEE WONDER WOMAN EEEEEEE.  We were not disappointed.  In other things, we saw a cool art print of the Star Wars characters as if it was set in the Middle Ages, as well as an official Star Wars animated webseries, Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, which is ALL LADIES ALL THE TIME.  There’s also some much-needed updates coming to the Pirates of the Caribbean rides at various Disney Parks that sound very cool. In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, there’s a new Blue Moon Fiber Arts colourway that we really want (#ShePersisted!), and Karen has been lusting after (but unable to acquire) a self-striping yarn from Must Stash Yarns, “Beauty and Her Beast”.  Two guesses what the colour inspiration is.  Just guess.  Also, guys, we suuuuuper want to make the Wonder Woman Wrap.  WANT. Episode 116: So Bad*ss I Cried

SPOILER ALERT!  Spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 from 40:05 to 49:47! In Adventures in Knitting, we went to the Knitter’s Frolic!  And…Maggie actually bought more yarn than Karen did.  This…this is weird.   Maggie got some Brooklyn Tweed shelter for Jared Flood’s Brownstone pattern, which she’s making for Admin Monkey (who’s doing much better, yay!) and of course some Blue Brick for some brioche knitting, the practice of which is…not going well.  Karen got the Frolic-exclusive colourway from Indigodragonfly and the Frolic project bag.  That’s it.  They also went to the Frolic Podcaster meetup!  Thanks for organizing it, Ramona!  (Also the word Karen mentions that doesn’t translate into English might be her mis-remembering the first entry from this article? Or it could have been a different article with a slight mistranslation, as she’s seen a couple in writing this) They also went to the Harry Potter-themed bar in Toronto, The Lockhart.  Sooooo many tasty drinks, though your hosts declined to join others in their group in sampling the ghost pepper-infused tequila. Karen also went to Ottawa and of course visited one of the local yarn stores, Wabi Sabi, and bought some weaving yarn.  She also did quite a lot of knitting…though not on the big project she brought intending to get a lot done on it.  Whoops.  Said big project is the Locke Street sweater, which she’s doing in some yarn she overdyed last summer.  She did finish the Tauriel socks, though!  The Continental-practice sock is goign much more slowly, though. In Geek Squee, we have seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and enjoyed it!  We’re also super psyched for Wonder Woman (message from the future: we were so not prepared) and, not surprisingly, rolling our eyes at the douchebros.  Maggie has also been watching American Gods, though Karen has not, and there was an article about Star Wars in Vanity Fair, the pictures from which were giving us the feels.  Also, OMG there’s a group of people that are turning the songs from the musical “Hamilton” into a musical about the story of Critical Role.  So excited. In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, OMG NERDY PURSES AND BAGS INCLUDING A PEGGY CARTER ONE.  WANT.  Loungefly, TAKE OUR MONEY.  Also Karen is SUPER EXCITED for story mode of one of her favourite video games, “The Long Dark”.  We also have a new (ish, to us) indie dyer, Scrumptiouspurl and a really cool potter on Etsy, Remembrances Pottery!  There’s also a knitting magazine called “Rib” that’s dedicated to knits for men, and there’s some really nice patterns inside so far.  Karen’s also been listening to a podcast called Viking and the North, which are a pair of knitting geeks from Toronto who will hopefully post more soon (though like we can talk, I mean really). Episode 115: Just You Wait

SPOILER ALERT!  Spoilers for the new live-action Beauty and the Beast from 48:25 to 55:11! Reminder: We’ll be at the Toronto Knitters’ Frolic on Sat. April 29th and there’s going to be a podcast meetup!  Hallway straight back from the entrance doors, 1pm. Come meet a whole bunch of podcasters!  We’ll have buttons!  And if you’re looking to have lunch around 11-11:30ish, we’ll be in the same area.  Also don’t forget about the Frolic Social on Sunday!  Details at the Toronto Knitters’ Frolic website!  Also, Karen will be in Ottawa the weekend after the Frolic, so if anyone there wants to get together some evening for a knit night, let her know! It’s been a month, y’all. In Adventures in Knitting, Maggie has been working on socks from a sock blank and did her first Afterthought Heel, and has started another pair.  She also needs to do some darning of some older socks, sadly.    She’s also planning some selfish family knitting, including a Brownstone sweater for AdminMonkey in Brooklyn Tweed Shelter, for herself Sunday Drive in Tanis Fibre Arts yarns, and the Elfling is going to wait until the fall as he tends to grow.  Also, new weaving tools have arrived, yay! Karen, meanwhile, has finished both LilliPilli and Mystic Star, but hasn’t blocked either.  She also made the Autumn in Garrison hat and has unearthed a very very old sock project, the Tauriel socks from Knitty, which she’s doing in Knitsch.  She also may have started a pair of socks in KnitPicks Felici, and is still dithering over what sweater to make next.  And she…may…have…bought…yarn. Oh, and, um, apparently we were reviewed on the Smart Bitches, Trashy Books blog.  OMG. :D’ In Geek Squee, we saw the live action Beauty and the Beast and we are suddenly tweens again.    We also saw the latest Wonder Woman trailer, and we’re praying that it’s as good as the trailer promises.  There’s an amazing Jurassic Parkour video that totally made Karen’s day, and she’s also been happy that one of the video games she loved from last year, Firewatch, won a couple BAFTA video game awards!  Also, OMG SQUIRREL GIRL IS GONNA BE ON TV in the Marvel New Warriors show that’s going to be on ABC’s Freeform next year!  Finally, Carrie Fisher’s family has approved the use of her likeness in Episode IX. In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, we found bath bombs inspired by Critical Role characters and which contain a random die, and our friend Marsha of One Geek to Craft All is making Critical Role-inspired stitch markers.    Also, the amazing dyer behind the Blue Brick has created a book of patterns that are designed to go with ombre yarns!  And last but not least, Karen has really been enjoying a series of romance novels with nerdy heroines, and she wants the third book in the series right now omg. As it’s National Sibling Day, here’s a commentary from Karen and her brother, Steve!  This time they watched an instalment from another series that was big in their teenage years: the 1995 James Bond movie Goldeneye.  Marvel at the ancient computers!  Roll your eyes at the Bond franchise’s lurching attempts to not be as sexist as past movies!  Puzzle at the facial expressions that count as acting! While the episode was recorded for listeners to watch along, for those that can’t/don’t want to, you can still listen as a regular podcast, albeit with a few empty spaces we would usually have cut out.  Otherwise, grab your VHS tapes and join us as we watch the adventures of the other Time Lord in popular media. Special Episode 7: Commentary Time!  Goldeneye

SPOILER ALERT!  Spoilers for Rogue One from 1:00:10 to 1:03:56!  Spoilers for Season 4 of Sherlock from 1:11:20 to 1:19:14! Political talk from 00:02:55 to 00:23:48, in case you really don’t want to hear it for whatever reason.  You’ve been forewarned.  Also since we recorded, things have not entirely improved so the call to action is still valid for many reasons! … *sigh*   ETA: This is kind of a test as we’ve had to find a workaround for hosting this file for the moment. Our hosting is still there, it just won’t accept files for unknown reasons.  Send Admin Monkey some hugs! Adventures in Knitting!  Maggie has finished Lilli Pilli and it has been sent to its recipient!  Maggie made a Pussyhat out of her own handspun!  Her Celtic Myths shawl has had…problems, which Karen is encouraging her to ignore in favour of finishing it.  She’s also been working on a Jasmine Scarf, again out of her handspun, which has been going much better, as well as some Chevronnes gloves for the Admin Monkey.  In addition to all that she’s also planning a Rumplestiltskin wrap for a wedding gift, which is out of DK&lt; so it’s…slightly less crazy than it seems?  Maybe?  And she’s getting more parts for her loom, so weaving is ever closer! Meanwhile Karen has been doing bugger all because she’s been sick for the last month.  Maybe a little work on the Lilli Pilli stripes, though she’s also running out of yarn for one of the stripe colours, but gives no fucks.  Since feeling a little better she’s been working on the Mystic Star shawl, where she found the last skein looks like it has a different dye lot, but again, gives no fucks.  Diagonella socks have mostly been in hibernation because big surprise, projects for public transit don’t get as much done when you’re not going to work as much.  This lack of progress on anything hasn’t stopped her from lusting over some yarn from Topsy Farms, however, which is begging to be made into a sweater. Also, we have started a new stashdown thread for 2017!  Karen has goals, many of which are the same goals from last year because she…kinda didn’t complete last year’s goals.  Whoops. Geek Squee!  A San Jose city councillor was sworn in holding a Captain America shield! &lt;3 &lt;3  We’ve also been watching a bunch of stuff, like Rogue One, Hidden Figures, Sherlock, and the Magicians! Cravings, Covets and Crushes!  Karen is super tempted to do the Heroes of Yarnia Knitting RPG scarf, which is completely mental but SO COOL (there’s also an MKAL blanket starting soon!).  Karen is also thankful that she doesn’t really crochet, because the Schjeepes Hygge shawl CAL looks amazing but also definitely one of those “go big or go home” projects.  We also love the Peace de Resistance mittens, and some of the proceeds are going to charity, so check them out! Adventures in Knitting!  Maggie has finished Lilli Pilli and it has been sent to its recipient!  Maggie made a Pussyhat out of her own handspun!  Her Celtic Myths shawl has had…problems, which Karen is encouraging her to ignore in favour of finishing it.  She’s also been working on a Jasmine Scarf, again out of her handspun, which has been going much better, as well as some Chevronnes gloves for the Admin Monkey.  In addition to all that she’s also planning a Rumplestiltskin wrap for a wedding gift, which is out of DK&lt; so it’s…slightly less crazy than it seems?  Maybe?  And she’s getting more parts for her loom, so weaving is ever closer! Meanwhile Karen has been doing bugger all because she’s been sick for the last month.  Maybe a little work on the Lilli Pilli stripes, though she’s also running out of yarn for one of the stripe colours, but gives no fucks.  Since feeling a little better she’s been working on the Mystic Star shawl, where she found the last skein looks like it has a different dye lot, but again, gives no fucks.  Diagonella socks have mostly been in hibernation because big surprise, projects for public transit don’t get as much done when you’re not going to work as much.  This lack of progress on anything hasn’t stopped her from lusting over some yarn from Topsy Farms, however, which is begging to be made into a sweater. Also, we have started a new stashdown thread for 2017!  Karen has goals, many of which are the same goals from last year because she…kinda didn’t complete last year’s goals.  Whoops. Geek Squee!  A San Jose city councillor was sworn in holding a Captain America shield! &lt;3 &lt;3  We’ve also been watching a bunch of stuff, like Rogue One, Hidden Figures, Sherlock, and the Magicians! Cravings, Covets and Crushes!  Karen is super tempted to do the Heroes of Yarnia Knitting RPG scarf, which is completely mental but SO COOL (there’s also an MKAL blanket starting soon!).  Karen is also thankful that she doesn’t really crochet, because the Schjeepes Hygge shawl CAL looks amazing but also definitely one of those “go big or go home” projects.  We also love the Peace de Resistance mittens, and some of the proceeds are going to charity, so check them out! Episode 113: Coming From the Dumpster Fire

SPOILER ALERT!  Spoilers for Doctor Strange from 1:15:00 to 1:21:00 and for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them from 1:23:40 to 1:34:45! So, politics happened, and is…kind of still happening as of this being posted?  But we’ll avoid talking about that, and just say: be Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers. In Adventures in Knitting, Maggie finished the Kai-Mei socks by Cookie A, as well as a Fly Away blanket by Tin Can Knits, for a coworker that’s going on maternity leave.  She’s also loving her Tito hat from the Blue Brick, which is good as it provides the feeling accomplishment that her Celtic Myths shawl doesn’t as it languishes in the WIP pile.  She’s also been working on Lilli Pilli since Rhinebeck! She’s ALSO been working on the Milanese Lace Topper, because she hasn’t done enough already.  Karen, meanwhile, finished her Cockatoo Brae sweater in time for Rhinebeck, yaaaay! Her Lilli Pilli has not fared quite as well, however, as she cast on for it on the train, knit the 50 rows of stripes, then had to rip back to the first row.    She also cast on for a pair of Diagonella socks because she totally forgot that she already had a pair of socks in progress, the barely-touched Unicurves socks.  She also finished her first real weaving project, a scarf made out of sock yarn oddments which she hasn’t been able to wash yet as she’s been too busy wearing it.    She…may also have acquired more yarn. Also, we went to Rhinebeck and had a great time, and met a ton of great people (and played some epically nerdy D&amp;D)!  Karen also appeared in a video called “Tell Me About Your Rhinebeck Sweater 2016″ by youtube user kristyglassknits.  Is it October yet?   We also competed at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair Sheep to Shawl Competition, with a shawl inspired by 221B Baker Street. You’ll have to listen to hear how we did.   In Geek Squee, Maggie is now thoroughly addicted to Critical Role, for which Karen feels no shame.  In movie news, there’s finally a trailer for the live-action Beauty and the Beast and Karen is losing her mind, and Doctor Strange and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them both finally came out in theatres! In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, the Blue Brick added another colourway, Maple, which we waaaaant.  Also, the IndigoDragonfly Geek Club is open for signups again, Think Geek has a lamp that will tug at the heartstrings of Harry Potter fans, and we have a new purveyor of nerdy yarns, Critical Knits! Episode 112: Is 2016 Over Yet?

We’re back with a delayed episode and very brief show notes for the moment, because Karen’s trying to get this up before she runs out the door to Rhinebeck.   In Adventures in Knitting, Maggie has been knitting a bunch of things, including the Jasmine Scarf and the Professor Higgins Socks, and went to the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters Fair, while Karen is still working on Cockatoo Brae, which…has a slight problem. In Geek Squee, there’s some cool planetary news (as well as some less-than-cool mansplaining going on), as well as a super geeky webseries that Karen’s fallen for, and yay, new TV season is starting! In Cravings, Covets and Crushes we’ve found another place with some seriously cool geek merch, which we promise we’ll link within a couple days.   We’re going to be at Rhinebeck!  Come see us at the Ravelry meetups from 12-1 on Saturday and Sunday and at the podcaster meetup at 1pm on Saturday!  Karen will be wearing the Peggy Carter hat, so she’ll be easy to spot, and if you see us some other time that weekend, COME SAY HI! This week, Maggie is so, SO close to finishing the Cardigan of Doom, after Karen made a perilous journey to the knitting store to get her another skein (one does not simply walk into the yarn store, after all).  That hasn’t prevented her from shopping another knitter’s stash for  yarn for another sweater, though, or from making more sock monkeys.  Karen, meanwhile, has mostly been concentrating on surviving March Break, though she has a little progress on a couple projects, and has done some much-need knitting basket organizing.  And, um, might have bought some yarn that SO DOES NOT COUNT in her efforts not to buy yarn. In Geek Squee, Magneto is officiating at Professor X’s wedding.  No, really.  There’s also a new international trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness (now with more plot!), an offer from Peter Jackson to direct Doctor Who, two girls that have made some really cool progress in science and a pretty unique historic needlework sampler.   And of course we just have to mention that Sherlock has started filming series 3. In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, we have a plea for help from our audience, and some new colourways from Blue Moon Fiber Arts that we’re drooling over.  We also got a package (SQUEE!  Thank youuuu!) with some really cool geeky patches that you can get for yourself. Episode 70: The Geek Event of the Season

Here it is, the recording of the panel we did at the KW Knitters’ Fair, along with the wonderful Teresa from the CanaryKnits podcast and fabulous Sasha of SheepSpot!  Thanks so much to the KW Knitters Guild for having us, especially Jenn who organized the fair, Iris, our wonderful moderator for the panel, and Colin, our sound guy.    Also it was great meeting some more of our listeners at the Fair; we love you guys and it’s always great to find out that actual real people listen to us.   There was a bit of missing audio from one copy, so the first 20 minutes or so is from my iPod Touch with an internal mic and sounds like it.    The sound gets better, don’t worry.   Also, the only editing I’ve done is to cut down on pauses while microphones were passed around, so you guys will get to hear how we actually talk before I edit the crap out of it.   Oh and one bit of news: Maggie and I will officially be AT RHINEBECK on the Saturday and I’ll be there on Sunday as well.  Come look for us at the podcaster meetup at 1pm, which is basically right beside/in the Ravelry meetup.  I have read that this is on a hill near the main gate, but as I haven’t been there before I can’t give specific directions.  Check the Rhinebeck Ravelry group for updates.  And if you can’t make it to the meetup, we’ll be wearing our K1G2 shirts so you can spot us.  PLEASE come say hello!  We’ll probably squeal at you, so you have nothing to fear about saying hi. And we’ll have a portable microphone so there will likely be recording at Rhinebeck as well. Special Episode 4: Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters’ Fair Podcasting Panel

This week, we have a newbie!  Lauren joins us at K1G2 World Headquarters and gets a first-person view of the crazy that goes on when we record.  We also have a couple finished projects and a report on our trip to the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters’ Fair!  Newbie is still recovering from the yarn overload. In Geek Squee, there’s more news about the upcoming SHIELD tv show (WAAAAANT) as well as some news that hopefully means more people will get to see Joss’ Much Ado About Nothing.  There’s also some late-breaking Dragon-Con news, there was a wedding that reenacted a certain same-sex superhero wedding, and Maggie got a little gift from someone who was able to go; some awesomely nerdy librarian tattoos (no, Karen is definitely not getting one of these); a trailer for a movie that looks like it will be an endless source of lols; an instant way to win Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, as long as no one can see your computer screen and some possible hints about how the Hobbit movies might be split up (no spoilers, we just tell you how to find it). There’s a lot of Cravings, Covets and Crushes this week, including some truly heroic soap, some lickable planets (and dwarf planet, sorry Pluto), some geeky yarns from one of our listeners, a super cool piece of timekeeping jewelry, and possibly the best game of Clue EVER. And of course we have a little prize to draw for this week…   The Hobbit: A Long Expected Knitalong has begun!  There’s no required pattern or yarn, just the goal of completing a project of your choice before The Hobbit opens in theatres on December 14th.  Feel free to post progress and pictures here on the blog, or chat about your projects in the thread over on the Ravelry group! Episode 53: Tribble Stash

This week, well…it’s episode 69.  There are a few things not to listen to around the kids/in-laws right off the bat, but we swear, we lay off the innuendo after the first couple minutes. …Well, mostly. Meanwhile in knitting, a certain project of Maggie’s is sleeping on the couch, as it has thrown yet another monkey wrench into her knitting plans.  This of course means that she’s been forced into the arms of on other projects, oh noes.  Karen, meanwhile, has no pretensions to monogamous knitting and so she has the same few projects in rotation as she had before, as well as being tempted to trying a fling with some new ones. In Geek Squee, the third Hobbit movie has been pushed back a few months to when it should have come out in the first place, a freaking amazing omg LEGO model of Hogwarts, someone has actually created a suit that gives you “Spidey sense”, a planned movie for Neil Gaiman’s upcoming book and news about a convention that one of our listeners mentioned.   There are also digressions about how much we want the Muppet Show to come back, as well as a show Karen loved that *is* coming back. In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, we’re keeping an eye on the contenders in Threadless’ Sock Challenge, hoping that the Spocks will win so we can get our hands on them, drooling over some seriously gorgeous yarn from Apple Tree Knits and a way for you get your Hogwarts letter, albeit a little late. Episode 69: Exactly What You’re Expecting

This week, we have alcohol.  No, for real this time.  It’s been a long week, and Karen’s got little progress on her projects and a mojito, while Maggie has achieved quite a bit more and started a new project.  Oh, and she’s got a London Fog or two under her belt. However, there’s lots of geek news including some geeky art of the knitted and digital variety and an article about science coming to the rescue of cashmere-producing goats.  On the movie front there’s a trailer for a movie that we only have to wait two months for this time and some behind the scenes featurettes for one of the two Snow White adaptations we’re looking forward to, as well as another modern classic getting the 3D treatment.  Oh, and geek god Nathan Fillion has some interesting casting news (squee!). As for Cravings, Covets and Crushes, there are two books, including one filled with patterns for nerdy types, and a picture book to warm any knitter’s heart.   There are also a couple patterns that to feature, including one that just blew our freaking minds, and a KAL and a referral to a coupon code if you want to get your Lord of the Rings on. Episode 32: This Podcast Needs a Designated Driver

This week we have projects that are ongoing and that are nearing completion.  Good thing too, as we’re starting our first knitalong!  In geeky stuff, there’s some wtf in the form of changes to the Oscar rules, a SOPA-like bill going through Canadian Parliament, and Voldemort reading fanfic.  In the squee, there’s some non-breakage of a major website, a kick-ass teenager who will possibly rule the world someday, and a Certain British Actor reading some naughty, naughty things.  We’ve also got a couple places where knitters and crafters can give back. The Watson-along is up and running!  We’re knitting the Elementary Watson Socks and other projects inspired by the cabled sweater John Watson wears in the first series of BBC’s Sherlock.  Can’t participate just yet?  No worries, you’re welcome to start at any time!  Check out our Ravelry group for discussion and updates; if you’re not on Ravelry, email us with your projects and we’ll post them on the blog, if you can’t comment on the blog itself (we’ve been having spammer troubles, so it might be a little problematic). Episode 26: Equal Parts WTF and Squee!

This week…it’s Canada Day!  Woo!  And we get the “eh”s out of our systems very quickly, we promise.  Meanwhile, Maggie’s still plugging away at her Vodka Lemonade cardigan thanks to the Yarn Trickster Gods as well as working on a couple other things.  Karen…is still working on the same things, and trying to resist the urge to cast on more.  So, you know, business as usual. In Geek Squee, we have some news on the way Avengers has completely screwed the major studios’ plans for this summer, some news on another upcoming fairy tale movie where the Mean Girl is the star, and the gift of some extra time for all of us.   Oh, and could someone bring us a fire extinguisher?  Because there’s a fashion house co-opting a certain geeky subculture that has our panties on fire. We’re also squealing over a certain superhero-ey mod of a puppet pattern that one of our listeners found, as well as some atypical tutus for the little ones in your life. We’re one year old!  We never would have made it this far if it wasn’t for our listeners, so THANK YOU GUYS! :D:D:D  There will be special things coming up this month for our anniversary; stay tuned for details. Episode 45: Eh?

This week we’re still chugging along at our Hobbitalong projects, though we’ve taken on a couple other projects to ease the strain (or are about to).  Or for distraction at the movies, which results in a handy tip for other knitters.  Karen also springs a surprise on Maggie, namely a mention of us in a knitting magazine that literally had Maggie bouncing up and down on the couch.   Oh, and there’s some discussion of poutine. In Geek Squee, there’s some news for Star Trek fans that are planning to go see the Hobbit in IMAX-3D (and which may change plans for those that haven’t bought tickets yet), another Twilight fanfic that’s turning into an actual published book, and a comic book appearance of our favourite astrophysicist.  For those traveling this holiday season, there’s some stats that might help calm nervous fliers, and we also have our thoughts on the OMG SUPER ADORABLE “A-Babies vs. X-Babies” comic book we mentioned a few weeks ago. In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, there’s a new issue of Twist Collective out and we are loving all over this issue, and we also have a suggestion for a quick-knit pattern that might be useful for those overcommitted holiday knitters. The Hobbit: A Long-Expected Knitalong is chugging along and we have less than a month until the premiere!  There’s no required pattern or yarn, just the goal of completing a project of your choice before The Hobbit opens in theatres on December 14th.  Feel free to post progress and pictures here on the blog, or chat about your projects in the thread over on the Ravelry group! Episode 60: Not Our Turkey Day

This week there’s lots of OMG!! and SQUEE!!  but first there’s a finished sweater for Maggie and some socks that are getting close to the finish line for Karen after some ripping.  And then it’s time for the three squees: OMG JKR is writing a new book!  OMG there’s a clip from “Brave” online! OMG there are promo pics for the next Star Trek movie!  And when your eardrums have healed, there’s also an application that uses Google Maps that’s both fascinating and creepy, an amazing T-Rex costume, Lucy Lawless being a Warrior Princess for the earth,  and news on the possible love child of the phone and the tablet. Finally there’s more squealing over a good mail week for Maggie, and a book suggestion for those looking to use up some of their stash. And speaking of using stash, the Stashdown is on!  You make your own rules and goals and knit/donate/gift/sell your way to a lighter stash!  …Just in time for a lot of fibre festivals, of course.  Don’t have much stash?  Keep an eye on the Ravelry group for those that are getting rid of theirs!  Email us, comment on the blog or at Ravelry and your name will go into a draw for a special something at the end of April.     (And yes, Watson-along projects count!) In this Hulk-sized episode, Karen and Maggie squeal about the Avengers.  A lot. In Geek Squee, there’s a couple notes for the Benedict Cumberbatch and Sherlock fans!  There’s some news on Cumberbatch’s role in the Star Trek movie, as well as a recent Q&amp;A for Sherlock fans in New York to kick off Series 2 finally debuting in the United States. And then there’s our Avengers report.  This is what happens when we see a highly-anticipated movie together, people!  There’s our non-spoilery impressions first, then we get into spoilerville and trust me, you really don’t want to know spoilers before seeing this movie! Episode 29: Bring On The Oreo Martinis!

After holidays and car troubles and computer troubles, we are FINALLY BACK!  We have lots of knitting to catch up on as well as some chatter about how our holidays went and a couple of the things Santa brought us.  There’s a lot of big geek news to catch up on, what with a trailer for a certain Peter Jackson movie having come out a couple weeks ago, and of course there’s a lot of Sherlock-y news (including some spoilery discussion about the new movie–see below for the time codes if you don’t want to be spoiled!).  And finally, there are a couple things to start the new year off with, and provide some inspiration for the months to come.  Oh, and we’re not sure if you can hear it, but Karen was running a fever without realizing it when we recorded.  So blame any weirdness on that.  Really.  Because we’re not like this every week. *innocent look* SPOILER ALERT!  Spoilery discussion of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows starts at 25:35  and ends at 33:05. Episode 23: This is Not an Encouraging Start to the Year

In this episode we’ve passed both Karen’s birthday and K1G2′s third anniversary.  Yay! In Adventures with Knitting, Maggie has…frogged her Hobbitalong scarf (*insert Dramatic Gopher*).   It’s currently in time out.  But her Kernel scarf and her Madame Phelps shawl, finished the first Neldoreth sock, finished the Milanese Lace toper (with her own handspun!) and has been doing some spinning practice.  Karen, meanwhile, has been slogging along with the There and Back Again Scarf, and pretty much nothing else (other than movie socks) because summer at a public library and end of the college summer semester (by the way, to any teachers, when she says “decent grade” she means at least as high as the A which is her lowest course grade so far, don’t panic). In Geek Squee, OMG GET INTO THE BUNKERS, J.K. Rowling wrote a short Harry Potter story and the first episode of Season 8 of Doctor Who has leaked online.   Also, the latest Dresden Files novel, “Skin Games”, is out and Maggie is freaking out; she’s also laughing at the Canadian/geeky references in Kevin Hearne’s “Shattered”.  If you’re a Dresden fan, keep an eye on the “Odd Duck Swaps” group on Ravelry, as they’ll be doing a Dresden one in future.  Emmy nominations are out, and Sherlock and Cosmos are nominated for a bunch of stuff.  Karen is going to go on the warpath if Cosmos doesn’t win almost everything.  There’s also news about some character changes in the upcoming Constantine tv show, Fox cancelled Heiroglyph beofre it even premiered, people may actually believe triceratops still roam the earth (we’re convincing ourselves that that’s not the case for the good of humanity), and Emma Watson has been appointed as the UN Women’s goodwill ambassador. In Cravings Covets and Crushes, we have artwork by aliciamb on redbubble of unusual patronuses (as well as a lot of adorable cards featuring other fandoms), and the American Museum of Natural History is offering sleepovers for grownups.  WANT.  Also, if you’re still not over this season of Game of Thrones or want to stock up for next year, the Wines of Westeros has classy ways to drown your sorrows. Episode 93: All the News Of…A While Ago

This week…seriously, guys, we should have known.   If we sound like we’re recording in a cavern, it’s because I forgot to check what mic we were recording with, and it was recorded with my laptop’s internal mic.  Dammit. Anyway, this week Maggie’s finishing projects and giving them away, which we probably should have expected, and she’s started another pattern for herself this time.  Karen’s working feverishly on the super secret project (spoiler alert: the knitting gods were not helpful in this regard) and has been changing her mind on one project.  Like this is a surprise. Naturally there’s lots of Comic-Con news about Firefly (EEE TELEVISED SPECIAL!), a new Sandman project from Neil Gaiman, and of course, another epic Twilight panel lineup.  Also, Adam Savage of Mythbusters has let another epic costume for the con.  The awesome even started pre-con with an amazingly geeky relay race ending in San Diego! Outside the con, the US military is taking some inspiration from a certain Princess Warrior, while the UK military is releasing even more documents about their evaluation of alien threats.  Of course they don’t monitor alien sightings any more…or DO THEY?  And if the zombies arrive before the aliens, we have a list of places where you  might want to hole up. And while you’ve barricaded yourself inside, we have some adorable amigurumi you can do to pass the time. Episode 47: Friday the 13th Strikes Again

In this episode, there’s a lot of talk about Rhinebeck. A lot. No really, we’re not kidding. In Adventures in Knitting, Maggie did not buy anything at Rhinebeck, somehow, and has given up on the There and Back Again Story Scarf.  Instead she’s working on the Sock Head Hat for her sister-in-law, has done some more spinning practice and on her Grimm scarf, and she’s finished a slouch hat for her brother.  Karen, meanwhile, bought…maybe not a lot by Rhinebeck standards, but still bought quite a bit of stuff.  Sadly, she did not finish the Saddleback Cardigan in time for Rhinebeck and it will languish unfinished for a while yet, as she’s too busy trying to finish the There and Back Again Story Scarf.  She also went to the Avengers STATION exhibit in Times Square and OMG SAW COULSON’S SUIT as well as a bunch of other stuff but OMG COULSON. And speaking of which, we can finally announce our team name for the Royal Winter Fair Sheep to Shawl competition: The Agents of SHEEP, and the inspiration for our shawl is “Out of the darkness, into the light”.  Really, like any of you are surprised. In Geek Squee, ALL THE MARVEL NEWS.  Age of Ultron trailer leak, Cumberbatch possibly as Dr. Strange, announcement of Phase 3 and a partridge in a pear tree.  We’ve also found a super cute and amazing recreation of the Ghostbusters trailer by four middle-school girls, Daniel Radcliffe was on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon rapping, and there’s a hilariously epic video for Rob Cantor’s “Shia LeBoeuf”.  Seriously, you need to see this one.  Oh, and Maggie’s seen the first episode of Constantine, and wants to see more. In Cravings Covets and Crushes, we mentioned a lot of stuff in the Rhinebeck discussion, so we’re just swooning over the new material J.K. Rowling has released on Pottermore, especially her character profile of Dolores Umbridge. Episode 97: …And Post-Rhinebeck!

SPOILER WARNING!  We discuss spoilers from the movie “Brave” from 32:52 to 48:10. This week, Karen is plugging away on her twisted stitch socks and has made a few yarny purchases while Maggie is nearing the finish line on her Vodka Lemonade cardigan and has finished one of her Catnip socks. With everything that’s been going on this week, we get our ranty panties on about the Ravelympics-USOC fracas and then we’re off and squealing about Pixar’s “Brave”, which we have been eagerly anticipating for months now.  Finally, we have another source for geeky yarn, and there’s a new issue of Knitty out for us to drool over. With everything that’s been going on this week, we get our ranty panties on about the Ravelympics-USOC fracas and then we’re off and squealing about Pixar’s “Brave”, which we have been eagerly anticipating for months now.  Finally, we have another source for geeky yarn, and there’s a new issue of Knitty out for us to drool over.
