Since 2000 one of the most extreme metal in Syracuse New York, a city known for brutal hardcore is the band Ebony Sorrow. Most of that time John Bukowski has been sharing the guitar playing and vocalist duties. I met John went I lived in Syracuse during the 90s and we bonded on our shared love of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. I have always known John to be one of the most passionate metal nerds, who embraces trying to hear everything. I wasn’t surprised when he started to DJ his own show on Syracuse FM radio. The show A Dangerous Meeting includes interviews with musicians talking about their influences. The show started with local guests and recently started to bring on national figures like members of Candlemass and Megadeth.  In this interview, John and I nerd out about music, hardcore, and metal and talk about the format of his show.

Sooooo...who doesn't like a good suspense novel? ( Okay, no one asked you, you with the hat.) With the types of novels that John enjoyed growing up, an acting and medical background, and his authoring ability, I'm sure this was pretty much an inevitable no brainer for John. Which, oddly enough, was my nickname in high school. But I digress. I think all of the authors that I've interviewed somehow write about themselves in their characters. But if I did that, there would just be so many search warrants, and I don't have that kind of time. So, check out "Project Suicide" in your favorite book buying place, and keep an eye out for the creaking door. You might just want to remind yourself to buy some oil. John Bukowski has been a practicing veterinarian, a public health researcher, and a medical writer. But through it all has been his love of books. Like you, He has always loved to read. And like you his tastes have changed over time from Jules Verne and Tolkien to Hemingway, Steven King, and Michael Crichton. Likewise, his writing has changed from consumer handbooks and website content to fast-paced thriller novels, which are a lot more fun.  Just as great chefs have distinctive styles, every good author has a distinguishing “voice” that both labels and defines their work. Read a couple of pages of Hemingway and you won’t have to be told that Papa cooked the bouillabaisse. His voice diverges a bit between novels and short stories. As a child of the Twilight Zone, his short fiction deals mostly with quirky situations and surprise endings, usually with a touch of humor to leaven the bread. His novels, on the other hand, start out with a thrilling roux of “what if,” then add two cups of violence, a tablespoon of humor, and a hefty dash of spicy sex.
