This multi-instrumentalist from Frederick, MD released ten singles in 2020 featuring the chill vibes of his Indie Dreampop sound through his solo looping project Mahogany Bees. Nick talks about some of his favorite locations, artists, and social causes in and around the Washington D.C. community. As a recording engineer in a local recording studio, Nick Springer has a unique perspective resulting from being on both sides of the microphone, and shares how he is preparing to release even more music and increase his collaboration with other area artists in 2021. While away at a Massachusetts summer camp in 1999, 14-year old Nick Springer contracted a rare, but potentially deadly infection called meningococcal disease (bacterial meningitis). Although he survived, he endured the amputation of his hands and his legs below the knees. He also lost hearing in his left ear as a result of the disease. Nick Springer is an American Paralympic wheelchair rugby player and a four-time national champion, and gold medalist from New York, New York. Nick's amazing mindset and determination will inspire you, leaving you with much to be grateful for as he does. In this special episode, Curtis interviews two GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) spokesmen about Meningococcal disease, a rare but aggressive bacterial infection that can be fatal or cause life-long disabilities.  It is preventable and there is a vaccine for five serogroups of the disease. Dr. Leonard Friedland is a husband, a father to two adult children, a pediatrician, and VP at GSK who has worked in the field of infectious disease vaccination since 2003.  In addition to learning about his great work with vaccines, we also get marriage and parenting tips from Dr. Friedland.Nick Springer is a gold medal Paralympian in wheelchair rugby and a meningitis survivor whom, at the age of 14, contracted meningitis, fought for his life for 2 months, while enduring 19 surgeries and four amputations.  As Nick tells his story, his optimism for life and for living it to it's fullest shines through.
