Annabel Vundla was President Nelson Mandela’s pilot. She was also the first black female pilot and flying instructor in the Air Force. But more than that, she is a good friend of mine. We learned to fly together, she earned her wings before she could drive a car. After a distinguished career flying for the 21 Squadron, the VIP Transport squadron of the SA Air Force, Annabel is now flying Airbus A320 for South African Airways. There is an interesting story in her family. She is married to a helicopter pilot. Join in the conversation to find out more. These sittings will be held under the African Union’s theme for 2020:“Silencing the guns: creating conducive conditions for Africa’s development.” Nextweek we will hear from country representatives at the Pan African Parliament aboutkey takeouts from some of the committee sittings.  For this reason, we celebrate the success of twoexemplary female pilots who broke every glass ceiling possible, from flyingBoeing 747-400s, to flying all female crewed flights, even serving as NelsonMandela’s personal pilot.  Tune in formore…
