Both guests had no intention of being police officers until they experienced a ride-a-long!  Fiona and Angela were hired by Vancouver Police where they started busy and challenging careers but found they wanted to explore options that might give them a better work/life balance.   Vancouver Island became an attractive option and the Victoria Police was recruiting  exempt (fully trained and experienced) police officers.   These members have energy and will entertain the listener with some good stories and fun memories.  Anyone considering a career with Victoria Police should take the time to listen to this episode. Partners in Life - Cst. Fiona Ford and Cst. Angela Van Eerd

After three years of racing Ironman triathlons as a pro, British athlete Fiona Ford was having the season of her life—she’d finished fourth in Ironman France and felt poised to push through to the next level, all the while building a thriving coaching business. Everything changed in an instant during a training ride on June 23, 2012, when a car pulled out suddenly in front of her. Thanks to quick thinking and years of bike-handling practice, Fiona was able to avoid colliding with the vehicle—but she still flew off her bike and hit the pavement, sustaining a broken collarbone, sacrum, several vertebrae, and pelvis, among other injuries. It was a long road back from the hospital room, where doctors told Fiona she’d likely never run a marathon again, to a podium finish in Kona in 2016. In her own excellent book on the topic,  Back on Track—and in this week’s episode—she explains how she got there, one difficult step, online search, and therapy visit at a time.  Applying the same diligence to her rehab and recovery as she did to her training and racing allowed her to unlock her true potential, she said. The result transformed not only her career but her view of humanity and the hidden potential in all of us. In the same week in 2006 she won both World Championship titles at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and Aquathlon events. Three years ago, while cycling along the London 2012 Olympic bike route, she was hit by a car and badly injured. Doctors told her she would never run again. But thanks to her grit and determination, she is back on her bike, competing in a triathlon. He went on to cover many of the world's worst wars and humanitarian crises of his time from the civil war in the Congo to the Tet offensive at Hue during the Vietnam War. His photographs document the building of the Berlin Wall and the famine that ravaged Biafra in the 1960s.
