As The Spaniard knows first-hand from going way back with this episode's young guest, Aubrey Dawson has loved wrestling nearly forever. Before he reached middle school, he was practicing year-round and hitting tournaments every weekend. But then a severe concussion transformed his purpose. For a time, Aubrey didn’t know his own name, his own parents, and even carrots! (as you will hear) Six months after recovering, Aubrey suffered another concussion, and wrestling was over for him. But that spurred him to pursue another dream—through-hiking the Appalachian Trail with his dad. He tells The Spaniard about his gear, waking up to blizzard conditions, recovering from ankle injuries, enduring mosquitoes, and aiming to break trail records. He took five. million. steps, people. Father and son Adam and Aubrey Dawson are thru hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2019.  We sat down to discuss how they are able to make that dream become a eality.  Graduating high school early as well as stepping away from a federal government position to set off on this adventure with his son.
