What a dream this show was! Now, I cut the game show out from the show as my mic was crackly and didn’t sound great. January 22, 2015In December of 2010, she unveiled a completely new side to her music. At the time I wrote:Laura Ivancie has a confession to make. She's not apologizing for all those sets she did with her acoustic guitar or for being mostly known as a singer/songwriter. She still does them. But her confession is that deep-down she's an Electronic music diva.A little background provided  by OMN's Ana Ammann in a preview she wrote on Lilith Fair 2010.With a famous Portland last name, Laura Ivancie, whose grandfather served as Portland’s Mayor in the 1980s, is setting out to make a name for herself. Music has been in her blood for as long as she can remember, yet she is a relative newcomer to the Portland music scene. After a successful college basketball career, Ivancie spent 14 months backpacking across South America with nothing but her guitar in 2005. When she returned, she became a firefighter for the US Forestry Service and in 2008, after much pleading from her friends, finally took to the stage to share her musical gift with the world. Her music is a mix of many genres, including elements of folk, rock, country and soul, and her song “Little Girl” is a hit with voters in the Lilith Competition, keeping her in the Top 5 most of the time.That was then. She has teamed up with producer Keith Schreiner who has had a knack with female vocalists: there was Jen Folker with Dahlia, Orianna Herman of Oracle, Stephanie Schneiderman...and now Laura Ivancie. Does it change her sound? About as much as it changed Schneiderman's, and that's a lot.

That's exactly what you'll get when you listen to Laura Ivancie's newest EP, Marrow.The always-lovely Ivancie sat down with us at Star Theater to talk about her solo album release and the new direction she's decided to take with her music. Ivancie began her musical career five years ago as an acoustic artist, attracted to music as a "beautiful connector of emotion" and "a forefront for a lot of the change that happens in the world." If you've ever heard her play an acoustic set, you know what a powerful experience it can be to hear her belt it out. Her voice as a singer-songwriter remains central to her music even as she breaks into a whole new genre. So why electronic music? "I just followed my heart," explains Ivancie. "I had been sitting in with deejays and really just realizing that this music does something completely different to me as a singer. I like to dance to it a lot, I go out and listen to it a lot, so I figured I had to make this transition at some point." You're going to love the new direction she's taken her music.
