This is a another "Say nice things about Detroit" segment from my espnhawaii.com Emily T Gail Show. Every show I share some thoughts and feelings about my hometown Detroit or talk story with a guest from Detroit.Julie Atkinson Fountain is a long time Detroiter. She was part of the team at Emily's Across the Street. She ran our plant store in the 70's and early 80's when people were just tuning into having indoor plants and here was a great downtown plant store as part of Emily's. It was unique in downtown and for sure our  green thumb spilled out onto the sidewalks with our wonderful flower barrels among the benches and throngs of people who eventually discovered it was fun hanging out on the sidewalk eating a hot dog or licking an ice cream cone from Emily's ....I love bringing people who have a history in Detroit into the lives of those who have become part of the present good things going on in Detroit. Last summer Julie joined me in a talk story with Larry Austin, Team Leader, Whole Foods Detroit which is available as another podcast here at Emily T Gail Talk Story.  After Emily's, Julie spent years maintaining the plants in the Renaissance Center, lived in West Village area, loves Detroit.so... thanks for listening to Julie and I say nice things about Detroit!!!

Larry Austin, Team Leader Whole Foods Detroit, Julie Atkinson Fountain,    Team Member Alumni (1970's-80's) of Emily’s Across the Street &amp; Emily Detroit Runs 30+ years ago, so a long time member of the "say nice things about Detroit" attitude. We talk story about Whole Foods Detroit contribution to healthy shopping opportunities and the on going commitment by Whole Foods to support events in Detroit. We share stories about the wave of enthusiasm in Detroit for recreation, farmers markets, community gardens, urban life style and commuting by bikes and on foot. And we look back at the support for the "Say nice things about Detroit" attitude created from Emily's in the 70's.On a personal note, I love that Whole Foods Detroit has our "say nice things about Detroit " attitude starting with the "say nice things about Detroit" mural on their wall when you enter the store. I'm grateful that the #saynicethings ohana which continues to grow gets good caretaking from Whole Foods, Shinola, City Bird, Detroit GT and so many individuals ...Also in this show Jack Berry, long time friend who has been a sports writer for five decades, many with the Detroit News, talks about his fellow Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member Glenn Johnson who passed away recently. Glenn was a friend of Jack's and was an important mentor and friend of mine. Glenn Johnson's  contributions to the sport of golf, as player and mentor to many is just one of the ways he gave back.
