John Gallina, CEO and Co-Founder of Purple Heart Homes talks about projects they do building homes for Veterans.

John Gallina and Dale Beatty were both wounded in Iraq and when they came home, had the full support of their communities.  They realized that this was not the case for Vietnam veterans.  In the military, they learned to never leave anyone behind, and this included all veterans.  Together, they decided to provide housing solutions to veterans throughout the country.  They started their first project almost 10 years ago.  They have organized communities in 30 states to help them make homes accessible, secure, and comfortable for fellow veterans.  In 10 years, they have completed 100 projects, are working on 50 more and have 141 projects in the pipeline.   Throughout the process, they have learned how to build a nonprofit organization, which is ultimately a business with the help of mentors.

Joy of Living with Laleh Radio Show We invite you to join Joy of Living with Laleh and her two guests, John Gallina and Dale Beatty, two amazing U.S. Purple Heart Recipient Veterans as they share their journey in empowering Veterans of all era in living a better life. SPC Gallina and SGT Beatty were both in the North Carolina National Guard and responded to the call of duty from the President of the United States to defend our country against terrorism by serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. On November 15, 2004, their vehicle struck two anti-tank mines that detonated leaving Beatty a double amputee below the knees and Gallina with severe back injuries, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and Post Traumatic Stress (PTS). Their journey together is one of friendship, service, courage and leadership. Their shared experiences in the National Guard created a strong sense of community and a deep passion to give back and make a difference in the lives of Service Connected Disabled Veterans. As Dale Beatty and John Gallina reintegrated into their communities, they were humbled by the number of people that would come up to them to thank them for their service and sacrifice.  They were trained to not leave a soldier behind on the battlefield, and as two combat wounded Iraq Veterans they remain committed to not leaving them behind at home.
