Basil is a herbaceous oil that is derived from the flowering tops and leaves through steam distillation. Known botanically as Ocimum basilicum this beautiful oil is renowned throughout history for being the ‘royal herb’.  Originating from the Greek word basileus which means ‘king- like’ it has a very noble and strong aroma that was prescribed in the Middle Ages for depression and melancholy behavior.   Basil has antidepressant, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and antispasmodic qualities. It is commonly cited as a great oil to help with digestive issues, hormonal issues and is a great antiseptic oil. It is one of those oils that should definitely sit in your first-aid kit and makes a fantastic oil to use in the office with lemon and rosemary to keep the mind active and alert.   Basil is a wonderful pick-me-up and can help you feel more abundance, clarity, strength and worthiness.
