Glasgow had become the murder capital of Europe and Scotland was the most dangerous developed nation in the world.In 2005, Strathclyde Police created a Violence Reduction Unit (VRU). The VRU built a strategy to reduce violence by taking a public health approach to violent behaviour and bringing together all agencies in health, education and social work.In 2006 Scottish police recorded 10,110 incidents of handling an offensive weapon, however, by 2015-16 this number had dropped to 3,111 marking a 69% decrease in a decade.During this period, Rudy Crawford was a Surgeon at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and witnessed the escalating problem of knife crime in Glasgow, and across Scotland.
