How does a childhood in South Africa shape a future life of adventure and philanthropy? In this 3-episode interview, ski mountaineer Julia Heemstra describes how a life begun in one extreme environment leads her to another and yet another. As a kid, she watched tanks roll down the streets of her racially segregated town in South Africa. Upon graduation from college, Julia became the first white person to work full-time in the shanty town are of the township under the previous apartheid regime it was illegal for her to even enter this area.
