Albert Edward Daniel, a native of St. Thomas and the son of Lucy Ann &amp; Charles Daniel, of Charlotte Amalie, was born on May 16, 1897 in the then Danish West Indies. He lived all his life on St. Thomas. Although he had no formal training in the field of Art, he became a self-taught artist and sculptor with an original approach to his subject matter. It is significantly coincidental that he should have spent his early years living in the same house at 14 Dronnigens Gade in which houses the Enid M. Baa Public Library &amp; Archives.Joseph Patrick Gimenez, born March 17, 1893 on St. Thomas, obtained his early formal education at the local grammar school and the Convent of La Sainte Union de Sacre Coeur on St. Thomas. In 1914 when he began writing poetry, he wrote his first poems in Spanish &amp; published many of them in the Dominican papers. He later became known as "The Virgin Islands Mystic Poet".Canada Lee, the adopted name of Lionel Cornelius Canegata, was a noted 20th Century jockey, boxer, &amp; actor. Born on May 3, 1907 in New York City’s San Juan Hill district, he attended Public School 5 in Harlem. He began his musical education at the age of 7, studying violin with the composer, J. Rosamond Johnson. At the age of 14 he ran away to the Saratoga Race Track in upstate New York to become a jockey. After 2 years of jockeying he became a horse exerciser for prominent racehorse owners.Camille Pissarro (10 July 1830 – 13 November 1903) was a Danish-French Impressionist &amp; Neo-Impressionist painter born on the island of St Thomas in the Danish West Indies, now the US Virgin Islands. His importance resides in his contributions to both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Pissarro studied from great forerunners, including Gustave Courbet &amp; Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. He later studied &amp; worked alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac when he took on the Neo-Impressionist style at the age of 54.
