Two year old Nikole Betterson went missing in either December of 1977 from Dearborn, MI or in January of 1978 from Las Vegas, NV when her father came and took her from her maternal grandparents. Over the next three months it seems Nikole's father wasn't really in her life, she was just being raised by her maternal grandparents...until her dad came and announced him and his new girlfriend were taking her away. They told some people they would be moving to California, and others Las Vegas. When they left Michigan in late December of 1977 it was the last time anyone in her family would see Nikole. It took 20 years for her grandparents to search for her, and when they did they came up empty handed. It was November of 1997 when Georgia resident,  Joni Betterson,  retrieved a handwritten letter from her mailbox. It’s contents were chilling. Once she realized who it was from, she was taken aback as she hadn’t heard from her son Jarret and daughter in law Barbara in over twenty years. The letter read, by the time you read this we should be dead. Jarrett is about to go to jail and I don’t want to live without him. I’m sorry about living apart from our family. I’m sorry about so many things. We’ve had a sad and difficult life. Also included was a money order for $900 to pay for the couple’s cremation with instructions to be placed in the same urn.
