Hannah MacInnes joins Dr. Britta Denise Hardesty, Principal Research Scientist for CSIRO’s Oceans and Atmosphere, at The Klosters Forum 2019 to discuss the issue of plastic pollution and to hear her personal insights on this complex topic.Dr. Britta Denise Hardesty is a Principal Research Scientist for CSIRO’s Oceans and Atmosphere, based in Hobart, Tasmania. She has been leading a portfolio of projects focused on understanding and mitigating the impacts of plastic pollution in the oceans for the last decade or more. She currently heads a global plastics leakage project that focuses on land and sea based sources of plastic pollution at a global scale https://research.csiro.au/marinedebris/. Her work spans the threat posed by plastic pollution to the environment, wildlife, people and society. She has a strong commitment to engagement with policy makers and environmental advocates, with colleagues in the academic communities and industry. Denise regularly serves as a scientiﬁc expert to inter-governmental and national agencies, non-government organizations, and industry bodies to provide expert opinion on marine debris related matters. Her team takes a risk-based approach to addressing the issue, focusing on drivers, sources, impacts and leakage from land- and sea-based anthropogenic litter.
