"You, sir, are supposed to be charming." We watched "Ever After: A Cinderella Story" and we do NOT need to be rescued thank you very much! Drew Barrymore is having a bit of a career renaissance these days with her super charming, super viral (personal space anyone?) talk show, but we're taking it back with this one. Twenty Five Years to be exact! It was 1998 and Hollywood was still experiencing a contact high from Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" and we wanted more retellings of the classics through a 90's lens! More young Hollywood It-Girls! More alternative rock songs in the trailer! But we'll be darned if this movie doesn't actually work. Drew is really giving it her all as Danielle, the soot-faced orphan doomed to live out her days serving her Wicked Stepmother and Stepsisters, but we need to talk about Anjelica Huston absolutely eating as The Baroness Rodmilla De Ghent - the Wicked Stepmother. Drew knew what a moment it would be for the Barrymore and Huston acting dynasties to be together for this one, so she called Anjelica herself begging her to take the role. And we as movie-goers are forever in her debt. We also get to see Melanie Lynskey (herself having a moment lately) in an early American film role and she's so adorable we can't even stand it. Listen, we all know the story of what could have been with Dougray Scott's (Prince Henry) career (google it) but in what could have been a thankless role, he really came to play and it shows he's having a good time. This movie is straight up fun - it's a Cinderalla story where historical Leonardo da Vinci plays the Fairy godmother. This movie was written by Daniel Waters and directed by Michael Lehmann. Joining me for this episode is Donovan Marcotte. He's a fellow gay who also loves this movie, and me and him talk about how fabulous this movie is, and just how it shaped us into the 'mo that we are today.This movie stars Winona Ryder (Little Women, Stranger Things), Christian Slater (Interview With a Vampire, Mr. Robot), Shannen Doherty (Charmed, Beverly Hills, 90210), Lisanne Falk (Night on Earn, Less than Zero), and Kim Walker (Say Anything..., A Reason to Believe).This movie is so iconic for the teen film genre. It showed that you can go dark in a high school movie, and paved the way for many movies after it. This film is such a great example of a cult classic, and deserves to be watched by any fan of teen movies or just dark comedies in general. "I always wanted to be a Tenenbaum, you know?"  We watched The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) with our friend Donovan Marcotte and we're all of us especially *not* a genius. This "quirky" family dramedy is peak Wes Anderson and quote possibly his best film.  Fight us.  We all laugh a little too nervously as Gene Hackman's Royal Tenenbaum eviscerates with words everyone in his path - even his children and ex wife (too real?). Are every hipster couple in their Margot and Richie Halloween costumes missing the point of the movie completely? Maybe. “Mothers, lock up your sons!” We watched Thirteen (2003) with our friend Donovan Marcotte and we’re still clutching our pearls.  Your wanna feel like a granny, out of touch with the kids these days?  Watch this movie.  Catherine Hardwicke directed this groundbreaking indie from a script she co-wrote with then teenage Nikki Reed (The Twilight Saga).  Evan Rachel Wood and Reed play best friends wrapped up in the unparalleled drama of teenage friendship - where every decision you made was life or death.  And some of these outfits are to die for.  We’re talking early Avril Lavigne levels of safety pins, cutouts and stripes. Holly Hunter knocks it out of the park (per usual) as Wood’s put upon mom and Jeremy Sisto is dreamy as ever.  We must be getting old - we’re rooting for the parents and just want to shake these girls and tell em to SNAP OUT OF IT!
