We discuss her path to the field of ophthalmology and medical retina, her take on the effects COVID-19 has had on prospective applicants for residency in ophthalmology, what she herself looks for in applicants, and how to make an application stand out. Dr. Mirza is a renowned leader in medical education within ophthalmology. In 2016, she was awarded by the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology the "Excellence in Medical Student Education Award". Dr. Mirza is a leader in the AUPO and has significantly contributed to the changes made to the residency application timeline and process due to COVID-19 by working with educators across the nation.
