Liat Shapiro is one of five Koreans who were adopted by a white American Christian family. She shares openly about how this has impacted her and her siblings differently, and that she is working with a non-profit in South Korea to create a culture where orphaned Koreans are readily adopted and accepted there.

Liat Shapiro is one of five Koreans who were adopted by a white American Christian family. She shares openly about how this has impacted her and her siblings differently, and that she is working with a non-profit in South Korea to create a culture where orphaned Koreans are readily adopted and accepted there.

In this episode, I invited a special guest, Liat Shapiro, who was born in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, but adopted and raised in the Boston area. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in spring 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics. As a Korean adoptee, it has been Liat’s dream to give back to the South Korean orphanage community. She is excited to be serving on KKOOM’s Board of Directors and looks forward to helping her younger brothers and sisters achieve their dreams.
