This week on 'A Current Affair' Breifne is joined by Cllrs Mary Bohan and Finola Armstrong McGuire to discuss the issues of the week in the county.  Having seen the number of women councillors drop to just 3 at the recent election, they discuss the impact of women in politics locally and the role that women have to play in the development of local government.  Finola discusses the current N4 road improvement works in Carrick on Shannon and how there will be unavoidable delays through the town for the next six weeks. The decision to undertake these works was made at a national level and is out of the hands of the council.  Mary discusses her interaction with CEO of the County Council, Lar Power, at the recent Council meeting where it was made quite clear to the council members that the executive staff would be withdrawn from any discussion on planning permission applications outside of the official planning process.  The importance of volunteering and developing those skills within community groups and the value that these individuals and groups bring to life around the county including organising festivals, tidy towns committees and charitable causes.  Finola talks about the selection of Senator Frank Feighan to the Fine Gael ticket for the upcoming general election.  The discussion ends with a conversation about the problems with graveyard maintenance around the county where lack of finances at council level has resulted in failure to maintain council owned burial grounds particularly in the north of the county.  Breifne also catches up with Niall Morahan at the U19 European Championships in Armenia ahead of his side's clash with France this evening.
