In 2008, Mike Tognotti saw an opportunity to apply the Scientific Method to recruiting, and 12 years later his company, Raindance Partners, Inc., is one of the nation’s most successful boutique Life Science executive search firms that has helped shape the landscape of the Biotech industry.As he describes in this exciting podcast, Mike’s focus on detail, process, and personal touch have proven to be a lasting formula through changing economies, competitive market conditions, and even during the pandemic. Mike grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and was fascinated by the advances in Scientific tools used in Scientific research to advance drug development and diagnostics.  He also loved the 49ers and marveled at how the team identified and developed some of the most talented football players of the 80s and 90s. The 49er’s leadership and culture stood out to him as the key difference-maker. After working for Genentech, Mike joined Illumina, the market leader in DNA sequencing. This is when Mike truly recognized that innovative talent, leadership, and healthy company culture are critical ingredients for a company to be successful. Mike was inspired by the leadership at Illumina and 49ers and gained an appreciation and passion for identifying and developing top talent .  He decided to change the recruiting industry by applying what he learned from his influences and also incorporate the Scientific Method to his recruiting methodology after starting Raindance Partners several years later.Today, Mike lives in North Carolina with his wife Audrey and three children. The highest impact occurs through extra effort to connect and learn about individual circumstances. Mike and Sofia Tognotti are a Santa Barbara father and daughter duo who set out on a mission to make a deeper connection and in doing so learned there is a large percentage of homeless who are chronically unsheltered, recently or currently employed and lack the income necessary to obtain affordable housing, so they live in their cars. All remain connected or try to stay connected to society and services, and many have families. The New Beginning Counseling Center Safe Parking Program provides 150 spaces - from Santa Barbara to Goleta - for homeless living in cars to rest safely overnight. The Tognotti’s are sponsoring and administering the donation of solar powered lights and battery kits made by Unite to Light, a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to manufacture and distribute efficient, durable, low cost solar lamps to people without access to electricity. Unite to Light was founded by a UCSB professor, is Santa Barbara based and employs the buy one, donate one model.
