Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez and Pierre Paslier cofounded Notpla in 2013 while studying Innovation Design Engineering at Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art. "Notpla" stands for "Not Plastic": together they invented a revolutionary packaging material made from seaweed and plants that disappear naturally and can replace single use plastics. In August 2018, they raised their first VC round from Sky Ocean Ventures, a fund dedicated to accelerating ideas to solve the ocean plastic crisis. Rodrigo and I talked about the different products developed with Notpla and why seaweed is the future. Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez, co-founder of Notpla: a better packaging

This week we are joined by two more of the inspirational thought leaders and innovators that UBS supports and celebrates through its Global Visionaries programme. This time it’s the turn of Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez and Pierre Paslier of Notpla. Notpla is a sustainable start-up whose mission is to eliminate waste and tackle plastic pollution by developing packaging that disappears naturally after use. Notpla is made from one of nature’s finest renewable resources: brown seaweed. This grows up to 1 metre per day, doesn’t compete with food crops, doesn’t need fresh water or fertiliser and actively de-acidifies the world’s oceans.
