Kim Crabbe is a renowned soccer player and coach. A highly-regarded pioneer in the sport, Kim became the first Black woman to play for the US Women's National Team in 1986. Following her time on the National Team, Kim transitioned to mentor, coach, and Outreach Program Director for the Wilmington Hammerheads Youth Football Club. Over the years, Kim has earned several awards for her influential work at the grassroots level, including the 2021 Youth Coach of the Year award by United Soccer Coaches, the 2019 Centennial NAACP Youth Services Award, and the 2018 Black Soccer Coaches Advocacy Group Award of Excellence. Before joining the team she played in her youth in Virginia and would attend George Mason University where her team won the NCAA Championship. She is a well respected youth coach who has won numerous honors for her work. She is dedicated to bringing the game to the grassroots level and creates programs that reach youth who may not have had access to soccer otherwise.

From becoming the first African-American to play for the US Women’s National team to providing equitable opportunities for young players today, Kim’s role as a pioneering leader is inspirational. Kim is happy to see more black players on the US Women’s National Team today, but knows first-hand that there are still structural barriers to progress. Kim sees the challenges black and hispanic players face on a daily basis coaching free programs in North Carolina.
