Mary Elizabeth Horton Vail knew her relationship to her husband William "Felix" Vail- was in trouble- she even had thought about leaving Felix- but instead, she decided to stay. Not long after however, Mary, who was afraid of dark water, would end up in a boating accident that would end her life.
