My guest this week is the Rev. Lisa Schubert Nowling, an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. I learned of Lisa and her work through the Indiana University alumni network, as she and I are both IU grads. In this episode we talk about the life of a pastor, which is very familiar to me since I was a preacher's kid (both of my parents were ordained).We also talked a lot about what it means to have a "calling," and how to find yours. She completed her bachelor's degree at Indiana University in Bloomington and continued her education at Duke Divinity School. Lisa has served churches in urban, small-town and campus settings, and is passionate about sharing the love of Jesus with all people through worship, service, generosity, and social advocacy. She and her husband have a three-year-old daughter and enjoy traveling, being outdoors, and cheering on their favorite sports teams, especially the Hoosiers.

The purpose of the United Methodist People Podcast with Rev. She goes on to go deeper int eh matter of context in regards to the understanding and preparing for the 2019 General Conference regarding g the way forward. She lays out in some detail the nature of the traditional, one church and connectional conference plans. She talks about the merits and challenges of each and shares with Brad why is leaning toward supporting the one church plan as the best approach to saving the unity of the church and the UMC’s ability to continue to impact the world for the Good News of Jesus Christ. She unpacks with Brad her concerns in two area’s prior to going to General Conference those be differing views of interpreting Scripture and the need too approach the sensitive matters of human sexuality at the General Conference with a heart of peace. Perhaps the most impact statement that Lisa made to Brad on Episode 015 the UMPP was that her hope for the UMC is not in General Conferee but in Jesus Christ.
