Currently many initiatives are being proposed for identity management, such as OpenID, SAML, CardSpace/Information Cards, and OAuth, as its importance is becoming apparent. Identity management is as an integral part of service infrastructures to make identity available to services across organizations in a secure and privacy protected manner.  The identity data are crucial to successfully providing the privileged and personalized experiences for legitimate users of services.  Also it is important that the users should have strong control over their identity data to foster a socially responsible service industry.  This talk will give an overview of trends in identity management, and illustrate best practices and lessons learned in real settings using case studies.  The talk will also highlight standard harmonization (SAML/Liberty, OpenID, CardSpace/Information Cards, etc.) and explore the future research agenda (e.g., mobile applications). About the speaker: Kenji Takahashi is a Senior Research Engineer, Supervisor at NTT Information Sharing Platform Laboratories in Tokyo, Japan.  He has been working in the IT and communication industry for more than 20 years.  Dr. Takahashi was a visiting scientist at Georgia Institute of Technology and led several business incubation projects at NTT MCL in Palo Alto.  Currently Dr. Takahashi is leading R&amp;D projects for identity management for next generation networks.  His research interests are in the interdisciplinary areas of security, identity, and usability.  He is also very active in technical standardization, such as Liberty Alliance. Dr. Takahashi has given many talks and tutorials at international conferences.  He is a co-chair of the Fourth ACM Workshop on Digital Identity Management (http://www2.pflab.ecl.ntt.co.jp/dim2008/index.html)
