On this episode of Finding Your Bliss, Judy Librach and her esteemed guests are talking all about surrogacy in Canada.Our first guest Dr. Clifford Librach is a Reproductive Endocrinologist, who is the Founder and Director of the Create Fertility Centre in Toronto. He completed his Medical School and Obstetrics and Gynaecology Residency training at the University of Toronto, followed by a fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) at the University of California, San Francisco.He is also a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto. Dr. Librach has made significant contributions to current fertility practice in Canada and Internationally. He has served on provincial and national committees for the development of standards for the practice of REI in Canada. Dr. Librach is the past president of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS). And Dr. Librach is also a leader in the field of reproductive biology research. From a clinical research standpoint, Dr. Librach has been a pioneer in the study of medical and psychosocial aspects of third party reproduction, namely surrogacy, as well as egg and sperm donation.He has been an invited speaker at more than 40 international and national scientific meetings, has published over 100 peer-reviewed original publications, 9 book chapters and over 500 abstracts.Later on in the program we will meet the CEO of Canadian Fertility Consulting, and the Founder of Sacred Surrogacy, Leia Swanberg, who is not only a surrogacy matchmaker, but she has actually been a surrogate two times, along with being an egg donor 6 times and she is the mother of five!She began Canadian Fertility Consulting and Egg Helpers in 2007 after her second surrogacy, with the intention of creating a more rewarding experience for surrogates, egg donors and intended parents. With a background in business development and management, Leia turned her personal passion for alternative family building into a full-time business. Surrogacy in Canada with Dr. Clifford Librach & Leia Swanberg

On May 14, 2018, the Jewish novelist Michael Chabon strode across the dais, shook Rabbi David Ellenson’s hand, and began to deliver the commencement address at the graduation ceremony of the Reform movement’s Hebrew Union College (HUC) in Los Angeles. What did he say to the graduates of one of Reform Judaism’s most venerable institutions? He denounced Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and spoke out against its security barrier. He lamented the outdated particularism of, and the boundaries created by, Jewish ritual. And he spoke in opposition to the longstanding Jewish practice of endogamy—Jews marrying other Jews—calling endogamous marriage a “ghetto of two.” Chabon’s speech prompted a chorus of criticism from many corners, including from some Reform rabbis. One of them was Rabbi Clifford Librach, who spent many years serving as a pulpit rabbi in Reform temples. In “Paying the Price for Abandoning Jewish Peoplehood,” published in Tablet, Rabbi Librach laments the current state of Reform Judaism, painting a picture of a movement that allowed its fierce commitment to universalism destroy it from within. In this podcast, he joins Jonathan Silver for a discussion of the Reform movement’s history and current troubles, the dangers of repudiating Jewish particularism, and the ray of hope offered by the success of the modern State of Israel.
