Hello and welcome to number 65! This week I am joined by Jonny Bealby who is the founder of the Wild Frontiers Adventure Tour group. Jonny has written three books including Running With The Moon which is a cult travel classic! We guide the episode through the early years which inspired Jonny to travel in the 80s after failing to make it big with his punk rock band - The Tin Pot Gods. Then we wade through the 90s with Jonny telling us some classic travel tales. We talk about the time he rode through Angola on his motorbike during a civil war. After a terrible loss in India he talks about returning to the area including Pakistan where he got his Hindu Kush tour idea. Jonny talks about being shot at in Afghanistan when he was a guest in someone's home. We delve into the travel documentary he made about him and a random girl riding horseback along the old Silk Road. Episode 65 - Travelling With Jonny Bealby In India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Angola + The Silk Road

Jonny’s story of how he became Founder of the award-winning adventure travel company www.wildfrontierstravel.com (@wildfrontiers) is an incredible one. One which is triggered by coming to terms with grief. This grief propels him to set off on his motorbike and ride from the UK to Cape Town. Instead of coming back by plane he decides to criss-cross Africa, taking 10 months and returning to the UK some 20,000 miles later.On his return his chapters include being an author (a trilogy on his life and travels), travel writer and then setting up Wild Frontiers in the paper!You will hear more about this poignant and tragic catalyst and a heap more on this episode. Our chats include the challenges faced when running an adventure travel company (they head to some remote climes at times trust me!), climate change and their 2020 carbon reduction plan with Eco Act.Our chocolate sojourn is with Jonny’s favourite chocolate ... an upgrade from my previous guests favourites (😉) Amedei’s Chuao. Then it’s time to explore Jonny’s wellbeing … where we conclude there is room for improvement, but he does a 30 minute session on the cross-trainer every morning which surely is pretty good!At the end of the episode I spin some thoughts about burnout.
