We’ve reached a last straw in the struggle for justice for black people in this country. Add to that mass inequality magnified by the COVID-19 pandemic. What’s an artist, writer or activist to do? Writer’s Block co-owner Vered Mares and Active Voice host Katie Bausler discuss elevating the voices of black and brown writers. And Mares experience with racism and freedom of religion as a high school student in Denton, Texas, which led to a Supreme Court catalyst case in the early 1990’s.

Melina Draper

Melina Draper is author of Later the House Stood Empty.  She and her mother,  Argentinian/Urguarian poet Elena Lafert,  are authors  Place of Origin~Lugar de Origen--winner of the 2009 International Latino Book Award for Best Bilingual Poetry Book. Vered Mares is publisher of V. P. &amp; D House in Anchorage.  Her father , E.A. Tony Mares, is professor at University of New Mexico and renowned poet and translator.   His  books include , ode to los librotraficantes; Conversations I Never Had With Patrcino Barela.  Both Melina and Vered discuss being brought up in multiracial families and living in New Mexico and abroad.
